The main problem is that people get paid to write code at Microsoft. Their jobs, and livelihood depends on quality. Only a handful of linux applications and libraries can even compare. Gimp, opengl, blender, kdevelop, and kde. All of which (except opengl) have crashed several times, on me and a couple require massive amounts of setup time. Opengl, kde, and blender were all produced by people who get paid.
