There's no OSS equivalents of the latest version of TrueSpace, AutoCAD, PhotoShop, Quark, Flash, etc etc
Half the mystique of WaReZ and Crackers is getting to be the first group getting a crack out, having copies of EVERYTHING, and having software just to have it.
Do you think every WaReZ kiddy has all this software installed? Hell, they might not know what half of it is, but they have it.
True - I inhale the 16 oz bottles of water from the local SAMS. Just fill them up and put them back in the fridge. If it's cold, it'll taste REAL good.
You ever see a Formula 1 car hit the wall at 200mph?
The car literally disintegrates. What's left? The cage around the driver, who's still living. All that dissapation of energy helps. Hit that wall at 200mph in your non-crumpling 1962 Biscayne, and you and the dash will be one.
I know, what else can corporations do, other than hire baby sitters for all the employees with net access.
But, in most cases, they are much more trouble than they are worth. Nothing lowers morale like big brother controlling where you go.
Sometimes the most useful sites are blocked. I remember working at a school district, I got NOTHING but complaints/questions about N2H2, the filtering solution we were using.
No offense, but it's very obvious you haven't been a geek very long. We've all battled with graphics cards, serial ports, game ports, parallel ports, sound cards....anyways, here's what you need:
You're nuts.

It all depends on what you want to spend.
Good idea, keep PC repair and your servers/wiring
in two seperate rooms.
Another reason you'd spend $20,000, is because (company policy, outside vendor, customer, contract) says you NEED one.
Solution:
Use and old desktop (free) with snort (free) and use it as a firewall.
Spend the $20,000 on a Sun box, a intel server, a switch, a laptop, and some Linux Books
It didn't crash the entire time.
According to the chart, it also didn't detect code red worm, SYN flood, or wu-ftp exploit.
Was this box even operating correctly?
They also looked at Snort, but found that all the products generated way too many false alarms.
Too many false alarms isn't necessarily a bad thing. In intrusion detection you'd rather take the false positives, than the alternative.
The rate of false fire alarms, and false burgular alarms is VERY high compared to the actual number of real emergencies.
Actually I like/B? getting greasy and doing all that stuff.
When you turn that key, hear that engine roar, and feel 400hp taking you to double the speed limit in the blink of an eye...
Kinda like the first time you get X running on that old PC you found at work in the basement.
That gives approximately 6 seconds of downtime per week.
Chances are even restarting the web server would take up more time than your maximum weekly downtime.
Your computer reboots FAST!
what are the legalities of storing bodily fluids, in your employers refrigerator?
No mention of the company who helped define the 3D shooter plauge we call the games market today?
Okay...well hitting a wall at 200mph, and then spinning out at 180, 170, 150, 120 (you slow down QUICK) and hitting more walls/cars/flipping isn't fun
I've got Opera running (ad supported) browsing Slashdot and various other web sites (ad-supported)
RealPlayer is barking my ear off with ads as I listen to the WRIF (radio station also supported by ads)
I've got AOL Instant Messenger open, there's an advertisment in my buddy list window.
KaZaA has an ad at the bottom of it....
What the hell...what's one more ad going to do?
Now there's a lawsuit waiting to happen...

Where do you buy MS Perl at?
Insightful?

mmmm
Do they throw in bread and mustard in with the deal?
Figured it was an urban myth, shoulda did some research
Wouldn't you need like a 600 watt power supply, and a cooling system rivaling the "Wild Artic" at Sea World?

Fucking lameness filter....
Heres the link
PCGPE - Joystick
Use one of the axes to cut a hole in the case and let some air out.
Basically this guy saved me some typing.
Take an MCSE class and they'll tell you how to do this...
