    About 25% give or take of eligible voters voted for either candidate. That works out to about 50M people.

    That's not even 20% of the "American people".

    I wonder what the 80% think?

    The Bush Administration has been one of the best examples (in a bad way) against the arguments of people like you who insist that all politicans "are the same" and it doesn't matter who gets to be in charge.

    Under the electoral college I could have voted FOR Bush both times and the reuslt would have been the same. I'm not just talking about presidential elections where there is an entirely different set of factors that nullify your vote.

    Let's put it this way... we've had the Democratic Party for about 200 years. The Republicans for about 150 years.

    The result of that was George W. Bush.

    Twice.

    I'm glad I'm not going to be around to see where this puts us in another 150 years.

    I'm not sure the country itself will be either...

    Somehow they also believe that a system where one of two groups has controlled the government for the last 150 years is an open multi-party system.

    It's ironic this incenses people so... these are debates between candidates already vetted by those in control. The powers that be don't care which one gets elected... they own them all!

    --This doesn't refute anything that was put forth before. It doesn't demonstrate any causality whatsoever.


    So what you're saying is, that no one should get the impression that this thing has been solved?

    Interesting viewpoint, I'll keep that in mind.

    Of course, it is global warming. Both directly and indirectly making the bad fungus thrive this far north of the equator. All problems are related to global warming. No need to study anything anymore.

    Crap, here I was just having gotten irrationally afraid of the terrorists when I should have been irrationally afraid of global warming instead!

    Can you just simplify it by telling me who to vote for who will protect me from the other side who isn't doing enough to protect me from... wait, which was it again?

    I do plan to opt-out of SS as I will be leaving the country permanently.

    Let's put it this way. If SS was administered on a state-by-state basis I would have very little problem with it.

    He compared local government functions to national ones. I pointed out how they are different. Your reply is a non-sequitur.

    You can't opt out of that any more than you can opt out of coverage by your local police and fire departments.

    I can opt out of coverage by my local police and fire department by moving less than 100 miles.

    Unless I live near a border opting out of SS is not so easy...

    Lots of people like American Idol too. That doesn't mean it's not trash.

    The first time I saw the northern lights, it was so incredibly amazing and awesome. The second time I saw them, it was still very cool, but the shock and amazement and surprise had already died down a bit.

    Northern Lights? Is that an RPG? Sounds kinda of cool.... which platform?

    Naw, I work with the government too and most of the problems really are quite simple (or at least no more complicated than most). It's all the paperwork and bureaucracy that makes it complicated. Oh sure, we COULD just go to the store and buy the thing, but instead we'll fill out form 361-B in triplicate, ensuring one is in English, one is in French and the other is in some language only three people in the world can speak (meaning you'll have to get approval and fill out more paperwork to fly them in to finish that section the form) and then wait 4-6 months for the document and its approval to weave it's way through the maze of middle management. Oh well, at least it keeps me and many other workers employed.

    Because if you don't go through that process... well... then you've got some "no-bid contract" designed to fill the coffers of evil corporations.

    Good for you guys... seriously... I live in CA and it's a clusterfuck on both sides. Overregulation followed by screwed up deregulation followed by the new rules being taken advantage of by unscrupulous traders. Here it will be the year 3000 and we will be running our entire house of the energy created by our personal Mr Fusion and we will still have the public energy utilities.

    Sounds like one could make an argument they spend their days digging up reasons for themselves to even exist. I mean, surely a task force set up to "survey global warming research" doesn't have it in their best interests to conclude anything less than doom and gloom.

    . Business that fail to adapt to a changing market generally either go bankrupt and reorganize, go out of business, or try to interfere with the new market conditions with new laws. I would guess we'll see some of all three.

    Keep in mind most of these utilities are in bed with the government... they'll be with us for a looooong time... efficient or not, whether we want them or not.

    As many have said, I like the extra daylight. It would be nice if it saves energy, but the extra daylight is more important to me.

    Now if they would only legislate it so the sun didn't set at all.

    I do not get this. My wife makes the same sort of comments. I tell her to put the baby to bed at 9pm if it's still too light at 8pm and she says the baby will be cranky because she is staying up too late.

    I used to try to explain. Now I just nod.

    You don't have to be interested in any of the other stuff it can do (which is a lot) if you ever liked the PSX.

    I almost never play games on my PSP. I tried to get into GTA: Liberty City, but I'm too lazy watching videos. It is a beautiful 4GB Portable video player that cost me $250.00 (including the card) that I take on the treadmill. With the price drop that is now $200.00.
