  1. Really? A court ruling against Vladimir Putin? Remember that rich businessman who dared to run for office against Putin? The guy who went to jail? And when he got close to the end of his term, that independent Russian judiciary just happened to find more charges against him?

yeah, trumpsky would LOVE to pull that kind of thing off... but we still have an independent judiciary. So he doesn't get to do it. So yeah, the USA has a FAR, FAR better judicial system than probably 90% of the countries on earth.

  2. yeah, the USA has only worked for about 250 years, it probably isn't going to work forever. It's just worked as well or better than any government on this planet.

do you have any clue how little money you have to have to get food stamps? At one point I was "between jobs" (unemployed) and just for the heck of it, I looked into food stamps because I figured I had payed into the system for decades, why not benefit when I didn't have any income? And holy cow, the limit was something absurdly low. Basically you had to have NOTHING to be getting food stamps.

  9. Seriously? Can you imagine a court in Russia ruling against Putin?? In the USA the government often loses cases.

Younger is cheaper. It's also less informed and less experienced. Which is why you see people making the same mistakes and learning the same lessons that experienced developers went thru decades ago.

As for the idea that older software engineers won't be up on new tech, it's not like younger developers were born with a different skillset. In the last 10 years I've worked on project with Java, C++, Ruby on Rails, .Net, and now a single page web app. It's not like there's any magic here, or that a younger dev would have done any better.

  12. Right. Because a president who pulled us out of a recession, created years of steady growth and full employment, and brought health care to millions of people is the same as a psychopath who cares only that people worship him.

What I miss about Palm was an early (PDA) version that had the "write letters with stylus" input. I know it sounds clunky but it was very easy to learn, and because it didn't require full letters you could input really really fast, far faster than I can input with the mini screen keyboard, because there was not hunting for keys and no hitting the wrong key. And it was even kind of fun. I really miss it.

I do exactly the same (although not as systematically). For example, when I buy games from Steam, if the negative reviews are centered around "too much DLC" I pretty much discount that, because I play games pretty slowly, so I don't care that I'm not getting "the full game" in one shot. If on the other hand the negatives complain about stuff I care about, I know to pass, even if the positive reviews are gushing about how wonderful the game is.
