Very true... it takes a longer to get a Gentoo dist going, BUT with portage maintaining that dist is orders of magnitude easier and *less* time consuming... plus you do *not* have to pay for up2date or spend time trying to reconcile redhat's version numbers. Its all very clear.
"Consequently, if bugs go unresolved, users have the option to resolve problems by scouring through numerous community sites and chat rooms."
A current MS user might ask:
"You mean if instead of waiting months for a bug to be resolved, I can just logon and probably get a answer?! Shoot, otherwise, I might have to wait a few days"
Now that is definitely something a user would *not* want!!
Very good anti-spam methods already out there...

I use TMDA and it cuts out 99%+ of the spam I used to receive -- try it you'll love it.

Hell, even filtering via Mozilla's or others "Junk mail" filtering works well... or something fancier:

I'd personally like to know how many open relays there are out there. Is # of open relays > how many $ Bill G has? Any correlation?
Getting the FAA to let you fly the thing aside, and putting the fact that F18 aren't just sold to the public as they aren't "Retired," and won't be anytime soon. It seems like you might have to use you coupon book, as the normal street price is $40 million.

This is a pretty rudimentary DoS as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong). Complex, no:
GET / HTTP/1.1\r\nHost: www.sco.com\r\n\r\n"
What is really causing the problem here is our old friend Microsoft and it inability to keep viruses off its hard drive, and the fact that even with all the press a large number of infected machines haven't been fixed yet.
Bugtraq has had a lot of stuff on this of course:

Has anyone asked the question of: with all of its intellectual power and original ideas, why hasn't sco put in place a server farm (http://www.squid-cache.org perhaps) and some nice load balancers (across multiple pipes) to serve up their damned homepage?!
Duplicate stories are increasing N^2, can some innovative programmer find a way to make (N-C)^2 so we all can rest peacefully in the bliss of a job well done.
Its a race between those who send and those who wish not to receive, and lets be honest with ourselves it will continue to be. As we get more better at filtering so do they. Random subjects, spoofed headers, hacked relays, etc.
In my spambox once a day for the last month (its annoying even going there), and funny I can't seem to unsubscribe and its coming from China:

Internal gearing systems are nearly as old as bicycles themselves dating back to around 1909 w/ Sturmey-Archer and others making them for years and years, mostly those old 3 speeds. They are terribly in-efficient when compared to your typical chain and cog system (95+% efficient I think). They also tend to weight more.... read they went the way of solid tires and wooden rims... bye bye.
If you want technology check Shimano's and Campy's new 20 speed road setups:
