Apple has always been quite supportive of its developers.
The number of hoops I had to jump through in order to get a development environment installed (gcc+all it's buddies) on OS X does not bear this statement out.
If 90% of the car uses were related to crimes (9 out of 10 cars on a highway are used as getting away from another scene of a crime), you bet the lawsuits would be everywhere.
Everyone I know has gotten a ticket of some sort. That means everyone I know has broken the law with a car.
Not everyone I know has downloaded music off the internet.
I doubt it. An anlagous case involving the Tec-9 gun (hard to get fingerprints from and some other features which were allegedly used to promote sales to questionable people) was tossed:
I remember that case. One of the things that is *rarely* mentioned in all the coverage is that selling a gun as "fingerprint resistant" is viable. Fingerprints on guns cause rust. A fingerprint resistant gun is less prone to rusting than other guns.
In this industry, Apple has about a 70% market share.
This is the second time in this thread you have perpetuated this myth. You must be living in the 90s, because that was the last time Apple has a 70% market share in the NLE market. It's more than 50% PC now.
Where'd that "$1 per share" stuff come from? All the reports I've seen today speculate about an increase from 8 to 26 cents per share, max.
According to yahoo finance, MSFT is currently trading at 26.48 and has a market capital of 284.2 billion. So you divide the market cap by the trading price to get the number of shares.
That's 10.7 billion shares. $10 billion distributed into 10.7 billion shares is roughly $1 per share.
Gates had roughly 600 million shares before the split, so now he's got 1.2 billion shares or so. So he'll get around $1.2 billion from this.
This is my main nitpick with people who nitpick time travel stories. THERE ARE NO RULES! In T2, they physically sent a terminator back in time.
There may not be rules, but there is common sense. If they send a terminator back, they should know immediately whether or not he succeeded. Why wouldn't they just keep dumping terminators back in time (to the exact same moment in time) over and over again until they succeed?
T2 should have been about a second terminator running around with Arnold to kill Sara Connor. T3 should be about 3 or 4 terminators trying to kill Sara Connor.
The SCO cases is supposed to be the first test, but that might not happen anyway.
No, SCO is not challenging the GPL, SCO really has little to do with linux.. it is about two things, one, a contract dispute with IBM, two, ownership of derivatives (they claim that if you write code and license it to SCO for use in SysV, then SCO owns all rights to that code and you cannot take that same code and use it elsewhere).
Obviously I'm too senstive to this whole affair of what constitutes "proper" grammar, but my English teachers always told me that "a" group of things was singular because there is only one group. Thus, "a" company may have a gazillion employees, but it is still "a" company.
Ah, but you say "Activison sucks, they are evil" not "it is evil".
Your english teacher is wrong, as evidenced by how people talk about sports teams.
"The Celtics *are* going to win this year" not "The Celtics is going to win this year".
Only if we get to mod the "copyright violation != stealing" posts down at the same time. Honestly, you guys sound like a broken record.
Man, I wish that copyright violation == stealing!
I could just see the news now:
It was revealed today that a pirate has stolen every N'Sync song ever made. It appears that he downloaded every song thousands of times, and then, to everyone's horror, deleted them. "It's hard to believe that all that music is gone forever" cried one fan.
Some people (like myself) think it does matter. However, there's nothing ironic about a bunch of people who routinely display horrible grammar skills would complain about an article that tries to correct them.
My favorite example is the phrase "literally and figuratively" (which is mostly used to mean "really, really, really").
David Cross has a hilarious stand-up bit about how he hates the misuse of the word "literally", especially by sportscasters. "Oh man, that punch *literally* took his head off!"

Okay, it's not illegal to be monopoly.
True, but what were we angry with MS about? Oh yeah, bundling IE. How's that Safari handling for you?
Have you successfully been able to remove Quicktime from OS X? It's *BOLTED* onto OS X.. impossible to remove.
I especially love how even with "the power of UNIX (ooohh)" you still have to reboot every time you update Quicktime. Just like Windows, eh?
It doesn't matter that most people _don't_ use it, it matters that with the GameCube they _can't_ use it.
Why can't it? You know there *is* an ethernet addon for the GC.
The fact is that most games _don't_ use it, not that they can't.
How stupid is the RIAA? Well to give you an idea,
Next week's headline will be: Freenet Creator Debates a Loaf of Bread.

I'd say 90% of Bittorrent's usage is legal.

say you report an income of $25,000/year but have two Ferrari's in your front driveway that are registered in your name
Hey, the dot com bust hit us all hard.

What is this, "nice hack" day?
Wake me up when it's "nice rack" day.

I'll ask the question again: Is this how the Open Source movement is going to seek legitimacy? By attempting to blackmail people?
Yup, two weeks ago, we (the Open Source Movement) held a vote and we decided unanimously to elect these guys the official spokesmen of said movement.
Our question for you is: are your posts going to be how the Complete Moron Collective is going to express itself?
Explains why I get daily spam about toner, but none at all for booze!.
Sending booze by mail across state lines is not legal in many places.
Yes, but what does that have to do with spam?
Are you implying that the people who send spam actually fullfill their orders?
I thought they just took your money and then laughed at you for sending money to an anonymous jackass on the internet.

That's right! Copyright violation is a delicious pastry!

Here's the plaintext:
"You have just violated the DMCA, our lawyers shall be contacting you soon. Have a nice day."
It's a good browser blah blah blah but to dedicate a social class to it is a bit overboard.
You're just mad because we wouldn't let you join our club.
"Can you hear me now?" Nextel is on the other end saying "yes, we hear you, what have you got for us?"
if (google=god) will always return true
No it won't. It will always return the value of god, which may or may not be true depending on your beliefs.
god=0;
if (google=god) { this will never run }

That sounds familiar.. where have I heard that.. oh yeah, now I remember, that's how all the other industries work.
the irony of your post is that TiVo is powered by linux.
