In Japan, buildings are numbered by the order in which they were built. While this might work in small areas where people know what was built when, it makes it a nightmare to find things in a large city like Tokyo. I recall trying to find the Sony Center and we went down the street several times before stopping to ask someone who didn't know where was the place that were talking about until we said "Sony Center".

One professor commented that if the clicking disturbed my classmates then I'd have to take it on a pad, but nobody ever did. I've got a graphics tablet now, so I think I'll be using that for the pictures, etc. What I like best about taking notes like this is that I've got them in one thing that I can take everywhere. Before, I'd have to carry around separate notebooks after a while because the amount of stuff written down becomes huge. I can also type a lot faster than I can write with them, not to mention that it's a lot neater.

Maybe if I get some time, I'll throw together some sort of logging script that brings all of this stuff together.

Most guided missile systems don't use GPS for navigation--gps is mainly a way for people to figure out where they're at. Not only that, but it also might take a little while (less than a minute or so, usually) for a GPS unit to acquire a satellite, which isn't the best in a combat situation. It might be cool if the European system is more accurate though, especially for wardriving.

I dunno but I've seen a hell of a lot of pentium based systems running around :-)

Seriously though, running the same processor on both the desktop and laptop doesn't really mean too much to the consumer, aside from the fact that it might lower production costs a bit. That said, I spend a lot of my time on my ibook even though my Athlon-based linux box and my Pentium-based FreeBSD box do a lot of stuff in the background. They do what they do great, but probably the issue with using them is that you have to know how to use them before you can leverage the power. I was somewhat impressed that OS X nicely integrates a lot of the stuff that I'm used to behind pretty GUI wrappers, and that's really what I find nice about it, not necessarily that it just "works" with things. Everything seems to work with things, though I have to admit that a lot of software put out by a certain Redmond based company seems to have a lot more bugs than other vendors, likely related to the sheer number of developers thrown at the project. So, for what I do, MOL seems to be a pretty nifty idea. I wonder how well vanilla Darwin runs on it..

And that's why it's different. (This isn't a troll or anything, it's the truth. Whether or not you agree that it should be treated differently is your own business, but the technology has changed.)

Well, thirty years ago you could simply record it without the commercials--I know I used to stop and start the recording while I was watching shows and after a while, you get quite good at just keeping the commercials from being recorded.

As such, if Apple released OS X for ix86 wouldn't that _truly_ make a dent and expedite the [IMHO, inevitable] paradigm shift from windows? Granted Apple might lose _somewhat_ in hardware sales, but wouldn't they make much more in software sales of a superior OS?

Actually, there isn't really anything, darwin will actually build on x86 systems and run. Then it would be a matter of recompiling all the other code, i.e. aqua, etc. on an x86 machine. However, Apple choses not to do this and for good reason. They don't want to go head to head with microsoft, yes, but also they don't want to jeopardize macintosh hardware sales. This really is where they make most of their money and also helps minimize piracy. If any guy can go buy cheap ia32 hardware and then throw OS X on there, then people won't be as inclined to purchase the, IMHO, overpriced Apple hardware.
