This is offtopic, so get your mod points handy. But:

I am really sick of the following two terms, and they seem mostly confined to slashdot (NONE of my gaming friends outside of /. have even heard them): AAA Title, and SKU. The former just sounds stupid. Oh noes, AAA? What about AAAAAAAA?! AAA? Like, the battery size?

Are there B titles? O titles? S titles? So could there be a BOOBS title? (Would that be those volleyball games?)

Both of these terms have come around somewhat recently, and it irks me. It reminds me of computer terminology thrown out there on bad TV by an idiot: "It has Megagigs!"

Seriously. You guys sound like marketing idiots using buzzwords.

I kept waiting on him to stand up, shake a cane at the cameraman and scream "GET OFF MY LAWN!"

Well, maybe not. But if he were younger, I imagine he'd spend a lot of time wearing a black turtleneck and beret in Starbucks with his MacBook, blogging poetry with no real syntax and whinging about how no one understands real art.

Apologies to anyone who wears a black turtle neck for a legitimate reason, like covering burn scars. However, if you wear a beret and are not in a military unit and thus trained to kill those who mock the beret -- why?

You're one of the four or so slashdot users that I recognize the handle/nick of immediately because of your posting style and history: Every time there's news about Sony you harp on how great the PS3 is, or how much better BluRay is than HD, and your post history also contains you posting negatively to 360 related discussions. Sometimes you say things in an outlandish, flamebait way.

Personally, I don't think you're an astroturfer. Just pointing out why some might think that. It's more your presentation than you liking Sony (oh, but defending the RIAA a while ago was a bad idea -- especially since they're trying to collect royalties for non-RIAA artists through their new internet royalties rules). And note that yes, there are people accused of being astroturfers for other companies. I was accused of being one for Nintendo back before the two systems launched because I was excited about the motion control possibilities. But still, any time I see a Sony post, your handle comes to mind.

Also, I don't know what the evangelicals are telling you, but as far as I'm aware, God doesn't smite. Christians who think otherwise need to perhaps reread that about God loving everybody. It works. I had more trouble getting my current printer to work with XP than I did in Ubuntu.

I prefer the Gnome interface. I have a few panels with different purposes, and each one has a hide button (but no arrows). I keep them collapsed on the left side of my screen. It's become instinctual for me to click in certain places for shortcuts, the menu, virtual desktops, etc.

This one could probably be done in Windows with some work: The left Windows Key minimizes all windows, and the right one mutes sound. I know Windows+M does the former in Windows, but this is a single key, not a combination. Also, scroll lock opens a file browser, etc. Shift+Left-Win_key opens Firefox, Shift+Right-Win_Key opens Thunderbird.

In my experience, Linux IS more stable. And as I'm the kind of nerd who installed Slackware and spent eight months in it, it should be apparent I don't have a problem tweaking my system.

The thing is has over OS X is pretty simple: Linux runs on my desktop PC. I'm sure I COULD get OSX on here, but I COULD hack a boat engine to run in a car. It doesn't make it a good idea.

Personally, I tend to laugh at the "grown up" comments. What's "grown up"? Sex, violence, disturbing imagery, and online play that lets you swear at each other? I'm not really sure why any adult would want to exclusively subject themselves to such content, but that is their choice. It just doesn't make the "kiddie" argument against Nintendo any stronger.

meringuoid responded in a good way, but I have something further to add: If you have to constantly remind everyone that you're "grown up" or "mature" -- you probably aren't. The rest of this is long and ranty.

I play a variety of games, but I'm playing less of the "grown up" games as time goes by, and here's why: I loved GTA:VC because it was fun and the first game I played where I could do just crazy stuff, like smack a hooker in the head with a hammer. Yes, it's violent and horrible, but they're pixels and after playing a ton of SNES RPGs and dealing with townfolk, I had a lot of rage for NPCs. GTA:VC was just hilarious and fun. I didn't like GTA:SA, because in addition to taking away a talk station (and the one had ANDY DICK on it, a man who may be funny but he does NOT have a voice for radio!), it was more gritty, real, and just an ugly game. I enjoyed Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but a few FPSes I've looked at since are just ugly. Yes, they're real. But that doesn't make them attractive. Metroid Prime, on the other hand, is very pretty, and easy on the eyes. (though the ice level can be ridiculously bright on some TVs...)

I don't mind the content of games like GTA:SA. It can be a fun distraction. But a lot of the "hardcore" games come off as ugly and hard to look at. Some of this may be related to astigmatism (I can't stand to look at webpages with white text and a black background for very long -- it literally starts to hurt my eyes). But they annoy me. Most Nintendo games don't have this ugly, gritty look.

I've been playing games since I was three. I've owned every Nintendo system except the Virtual Boy and a few incarnations of the Gameboy, and most Sega systems -- all except the Game Gear and the Saturn. I've played more DOS games than anyone I know (and I'm the only person in my group of friends to beat Zork I), and I own a PSX and a borked PS2. I have yet to own a Microsoft game console but now that I'm shifting to Linux only for my OS, the 360 is looking nice. I don't know if this qualifies me as a "purist" or not. But as long as Nintendo puts out games like Zelda: Twilight Princess and the Metroid Prime series, I'll be interested in their console. The Virtual Console is also cool, even though I feel weird buying game I already own. I don't need more than two or three new games a month, I just don't spend the time on it like I did when I was younger. A few games a year on the Wii plus one of the more "powerful" systems once the price is right -- I'll be set for *my* entertainment needs.

Zelda: TP alone justified the Wii purchase for me, though, because it's possibly my favorite in the series (and I've played all of them except the two Oracle games/the Gamecube game... oh, and the CDi games, because I dislike projectile vomiting.)
