I have a dual 1Ghz MDD model and I saw a few other people with the same systems reporting lots of KP's with 10.2.8. I downgraded to 10.2.6 until Panther came out which does not suffer the same problem. I would recommend going to 10.2.6 for a while and seeing if that fixes up your problem.
And a Linux user will have KDE or Gnome to display there files just like a OS X user will with finder. There is just as much need to use ls on linux as on OS X.
I totally agree with you that apple is not pushing BT as a whole, but in the mac market they are helping to push the idea of BT. These new systems are lowering the barrier for entry of BT devices into a Mac users world. You already have the ability to use the device you just need to go out and buy one. Contrast this to having to out and buy the device AND a way to sync the data with your home computer. They are silently building up a ready market of people who can immediatly buy and use BT devices making them more appealing.
the 10.2.8 update did that to my dual 1Ghz MDD. I think it was just a KP that happened at night as I was averaging one a day after applying the.8 patch. So if you have had alot of KP's that might be the source. I reverted to 10.2.6 and all was well and so far so good with Panther.
I'm happy you like OS X and even more so that you have something that fits you even better (heard lots of good things about E will probably try it out when I rebuild the Athlon). But there is a very good hack to bring back Windowshade, it is shareware though but when I used it last (10.1) it was flawless.
Much to early for that IMO. First they need to prove to the world that selling music online will work well and video (even "short" TV shows) will need much more HD space and bandwidth.
I've saved and spent quite a bit of cash on warze copies. Loved UT enough I picked it up and got a taste of SC4K to know to save my cash. It is also the case that when you have a goog mix of warze & legal copies of a game at a LAN the warze side will start to lose out and if they want to get into the game they need to pony up the cash (because of the hastle of hacking/patching/etc to the same version). just my two cents...
As another poster said "to be sure", also I bet apple and old school mac users are uneasy with the idea of system updates without a restart. I'm just glad they finally wised up and don't have the iApps force you to restart anymore.
Not only does XP see the keyboard fine but it also see's the extra USB ports. Even Linux (RH9) knows it's a Apple Pro Keyboard (not sure about USB in Linux though). Go ahead and buy one if you want should work fine.
Does this mean they're planning on running some variant of BSD? I would imaging that, for licensing sake, they wouldn't put a stock Mac OS on there (OSX)... would cost "too much" and would provide "more" than they need. Unlimited Client X server costs only 1000.
as I recall it was because the JVM for sloaris blew and they knew it. I would imagine that the OS/Java group has been told to fix this problem so they can use java for internal projects.
On the other hand, Apple's scripting language for MacOS wasn't bad. Guess it's just a Microsoft thing.
Hell, now you can control the GUI itself with applescript! *note* I do not use AS so I can not comment on how well it works, I'll keep my perl thanks;-)
and how many switched after Code Red? ILoveYou? the countless others? Those who got inffected either had someone take care of it or just reinstalled the system. This is what they are trained to do and expect it with computers.
Slashdot artical on venerability

good point. I was just trying to think of ANY Apple updates that have foobar'd peoples systems and those were the only ones I could come up with.
iTunes (2?) update that would rm -r your HD if it had a space in it. Also 10.2.8 gave me more kernal panics then I can count.
Thanks for the link, does not effect the latest Camino nightly.

Does this surprise anyone, really?

Woln't stop people from arguing about it...

Fuck the problems with MS software, only ONE data storage facility!!!

I wonder how much longer the page takes to load on dialup with all the whitespace in the source.

Real world stats Puts 98 at ~30%, plenty of folks to buy a new comptuer with XP before they need to upgrade to Longhorn.
