Very Simple. Omni has stated many times that 4.5 was ONLY going to change the rendering engin from their own to WebCore. There are no other features and if you already paid for OW this update does not cost any more money. The next version 5.0 should have tabs and other features in and will continue to use Webcore.
I was in the market for a college computer when the Cube came out so I spent that day deciding what to buy. I already had a monitor and was planning on a tower but since the Cube came out I check it out as well. What it came down to was for like 10% (~$200) more I got a second CPU (OS X was coming), more HD, 4 ram slots (I even used them all up), plus room for more HD's & PCI cards.
After the price drop $1300 it was a tempting buy, but by that time it was to late. The Cube was for rich people like Opra or graphic artists who just loved it's footprint. Then apples stock crashed but that is another story...
just because apple does not provide the ability does not mean it can't be done. My dock is at the top right, I use a theme and have tweaked out my OS to my liking. Now if only all the KDE themes weren't so damn ugly...
You *could* (probably still can, I dont' know) get VPC by itself with DOS or FreeDOS or something. It was the cheapest version and then you can slap XP/Linux/BSD/Whatever on it.
According to this in 1993 apples share was 10%. While this chart gives no idea on actually installed base we do know the PC market is MANY times larger today then it was 10 years ago resulting with a small % that apple can serve.
But you are very right in apple still has a LONG road ahead, hopefuly apple from one side, Linux from the other and the PC market can be broken into three dominant platforms. Hey, I can dream can't I?;)
man I had forgotten all about WriteNow. I loved that app. It was still our editor of choice back home until I got my father to make the X switch and I gave him Office. Quick to start, never crashed and did it's job very well.
The more logical thing to do would be to hire some more temorary workers to create the needed man hours, but of course that'd cost the company money....
Frederick Brooks: Mythical man-month. Adding more works in the middle of a project will end up taking more time in the end. Plus it will cost alot more to pay more workers.
software update DOES NOT INSTALL SAFARI! Sadly it does update it if you have it installed (software update is for SYSTEM updates, it should not be used to update software)
My HS was all mac until "PC day" came around. Since we were so small we got 3 band spankin' new P2's. Our "IT" also doubled as a event coordinator and was a HUGE mac head. What did he do with these computers he didn't really want? He took them in as we NEEDED computers (still used Mac Plus's and such all over). He learned up on maintaining Windows and three other people helped out as they wanted to replace all the macs with windows. It really dosen't matter what kind of computers they are, if they can run a word processor and a brower they are great value to our nations schools.
And now, the growth of Open Source has crippled Microsoft's ability to "embrace and extend" critical standards. The first big mistake in that battle is their recent announcement that there will be no more standalone versions of Internet Explorer. Open Source alternatives will be able to develop and implement improvements in browser technology at a much more nimble rate than will Microsoft while maintaining compatibility with current standards. New versions of IE that cripple functionality will drive customers toward alternatives rather than toward IE (and the requisite release of Windows that delivers it).
I see this happening differently...What I think MS is up to with IE is a test bed for Windows/Office/Etc as a service that you pay for yearly and they just keep patching ad-nasium. They can force secuirty and even new features down using windows update and if they feel some new IE feature will push the next version of Doz they can hold that back.
So I don't see a huge shift happening in the browser front not to mention IE is dominent because people just dont' care. They take and use whatever is default and never patch/replace/upgrade it again.
You say that as if you HAVE to pay for OW. You don't. You just get a funny little nag message like Quicktime.

I'm a mac user and all but really, you will probably be ablet o get a Athlon 64 at the same time you can walk into a apple store and buy a G5.
Apples new IDE xCode thankfuly will finally have this feature.

...and for the classic Mac OS you had "Simple menu's". Much better way to do "dumb" IMO.

That is what DVD Studio Pro is for.

1.6Ghz = $2000
1.8Ghz = $2400
dual 2Ghz = $3000
Wanna wait for him to finish first?
They just appear to be easier to add and use. Maybe the actions have been expended in some way..../me drools about adding perl scripts to folders...

Or you can install Gaim itself via Fink. I have also heard that at some time in the future the Gaim folks will offer a OS X version.

...then immediately get sued by Hasbro, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
except the PS d-pad eats up your thumb worse then the orginal NES one did.
There is more to the world than the good ol' USA, you know.
Europe, Asia, etc, may have something to say about it.
Like we ever pay any attention to what they say...
Yup. Hell when we got our tour of nVidia a few months back they TOLD US THIS. Both nVidia & ATI optimize their drivers for the new upcoming big games.
Benchmarks are completely useless.
