  1. Indeed on SpaceShipOne Flight Not as Perfect as it Seemed · · Score: 5, Insightful
Maybe there is a valid reason why Nasa is so expensive after all.

Indeed! NASA never has accidents that kill people. Through the mass application of science and billions of taxpayer dollars, all risk has been eliminated from space travel. Carry on, sir.
  2. These are truly amazing cars on The Technology Behind Formula One · · Score: 5, Funny

When I switch on Speedvision at my friend's house to watch Formula One, what amazes me most about these cars is not just their speed but their ability to turn left (of course) but also to the right. As a NASCAR fan, this "bidirectional steering" thing the Europeans are doing is truly amazing. Maybe someday it will come to the states.

Has anyone else noticed that a Google search on Total Disaster returns Fedora Core 2 as the #2 hit? It was #1 last week. Hopefully this release will push us even further away from such an undignified title.

  9. Using the DMCA to kill reverse engineering... on PlayFair Pulled Due to DMCA Request · · Score: 0

"Maybe you can explain that, as I don't understand.

    Certainly.

It iss an assault on freedom. I support good access control - access control that is strong enough to prevent reverse engineering. This is how security works. What I cannot support is organizations like the MPAA, RIAA and Apple using a bad law to suppress the speech of programmers. Source code is free speech! Where have you been all these years?

I am very sorry for the MPAA and Apple that they hired incompetents to write their access control mechanisms. However when you start banning speech, where does one draw the line? I'm sure we will soon have a PlayFair T-shirt at ThinkGeek, and Apple will have to start having wearers of the T-shirt arrested, much like the MPAA.

It is a very simple assault on freedom that fortuneately is illegal in the countries like Germany where reverse engineering is legal - and where this software will eventually find a home.

  10. Our response should be simple and brutal. on PlayFair Pulled Due to DMCA Request · · Score: -1, Flamebait
I call again on everyone who supported us in our campaign to Free Dimitri from the unjust shackles of an insane law to help by immediately Boycotting Apple. Things you can do to help:

    • Publicly burn any Apple hardware you own Mac/Ipod/etc. Try to do this en masse, and call your local news station.
    • Write a letter to your congressman. Make sure you mention why the DMCA is a bad law, and why you cannot suport any company which uses it to attack legitimate reverse engineering.
    • Do whatever you can to remove Apple software from your workplace. Now that Apple has publicly sided against freedom, OS/X must be considered dead as a development platform. Ditch it immediately!

Good luck, and may the Force be with you.
