You also need election officers who actually would answer email. I can honestly say, the government has never screwed up my ability to vote in an election. ICANN on the other hand, well, 3 months plus and I still havent heard why my pin never arrived, and why I couldnt vote.
How many others have yet to get all the information required to login? (Deadline was back in September) Who else is not getting responses from ICANN in timely fashion?
Love it when you carma whores never even read the articles before posting. There was a release of Divx that worked with xmp. (um, thats a linux movie player)
Thos "4 gigs" include multiple language tracks, trailers, extras. When you actually get down to it, most DVDs only include maybe 2 gigs of audio/video data relevent to me (an english speaking viewer). Cut your bitrate on audio and video a bit, compress it, and your 2 gig movie is now down to 600 megs or so using divx and mp3. The MPAA needs to spend more time "innovating" rather than suing their way to success.
We have a 1.4mbs sdsl connection at the office in atlanta. Since its installation in January, we have experienced at least one outage every 2 weeks. Normally outage happens on Friday, and isnt repaired until Monday. PSI offers no level of service agreement, so if its down, "bugger off and have a beer". Covad, who handles the local loop connection, seems to be the biggest problem. The installer was a nice guy, but none of the tech seem to have a clue when things break. Since dsl quite often incorporates 3 levels of contacts, its very difficult to get things fixed in a timely fashion. You have the owner of the copper, the local telco, the handler of the local loop, and then the isp. If you are lucky enough to get your dsl from the telco, you might not have these issues. As far as throughput is concerned, ask specifically where your loop terminates. In our case, our loop terminated in Philly. ATL to Philly, no wonder we had max throughput of 25kbs on a 1.4mbs line! Took 3 months for that to be fixed. Once the loop was fixed, our throughput has been great. When its up, its up. When its down, well...Vacation anyone?
In the current era of Extraodinarily Large companies, non-competition reaches into many areas of industry. Programmer for AOL, signing a general "you will not compete in any of our markets" can go work at McDonalds until AOL decides to buy that too. I hadn't realized until this moment, this other ramification of all the mergers we have seen recently.
Which brings up the subject; is this carnivore version 2.0? How long have they been testing this program on the general public without informing us about the program?
The FBI again defended the use of Carnivore in congressional hearings Thursday, saying the program has only been used about 25 times in two years and always under stringent legal procedures.
So, let me see if I get this straight.
The Federal Government, wants us to allow them to look at our email, but, they lose the email of White House staffers?
Their software will intellegently seperate your mail from mine, but in the Whitehouse, their systems couldn't respond properly to an issued subpeona?
What Intellectual property?
From my point of view, it cant be "scan bar, visit website". We have done that internally here for almost 6+ years now. Paperwork gets barcodes at the bottom that map to stored intranet location, originating department, etc. for future reference/follow-up. Yes, we use http to get to those locations..

I personally picked up 5 units from Radio Shack.
Wife got 3.
Father in law got 2.
Brother got 2.
None of us signed anything, nor were we asked for personal information.
I'v not installed their software, so I am not bound by their software license. Additionally, there is no shrinkwrap on the cd. There was no hardware rental/use agreement signed. In local courts, this item will be considered a gift, there were no terms associated with the gift.
um, loud mouthed dude...
Our OEM copies arrived yesterday, and I'v had a version out of MSDN for a while now.
Before you run off at the mouth...think...
Even worse yet...
We must name NAI as co-defendants in this case also. It is an intentional function of their software to allow ADKs to be used for this purpose.
Did big tobbaco really lose? How many Philip Morris "feel good" commercials do you see on television since the hearings/settlements? More than you saw before. My 6 year old, who never heard of Philip Morris before all of this, asked me the other day "Daddy, what do they make?"
Ok, DSL horror stories! Installed on Jan 5th, 2000. Ordered 384k sDSL to start with. Routers claimed a connection of 384k, but thru-put was sub 20kbs. By mid February, we learned that our circuit was terminated in Philadelphia PA. Our office is in Atlanta. Gee, wonder why the latency was so bad? PSI blames Covad. Covad blames PSI. PSI changes DNS in march, to make the router look like a SouthEast circuit, claims problem resolved. *cough* Finally, in April, circuit actually moved to Atlanta. First hop drops from 75ms to 16ms. PSI offers 2 weeks off the bill, for 3 months of bad service. Wow, aren't they generous. Avoid PSI, if you need biz services, consider Cais out of DC. So far we havent had a problem with them. Only one of our 30+ clients with dsl had a problem, and that was because the telco had too much fiber between he and the CO. As much as I hate to admit it (and I really do NOT like RBOCs), in all of our DSL problems, the only reliable contacts have been Bellsouth. One advantage we had: the Bellsouth technician, has worked our county for nearly 6 years, he installed our ISDN, the 2 T1s, and now has watched over Covad in the DSL. Sometimes it does help to give that RBOC tech a cup of coffee..
If you are feeling really malicious, buy some stock in them, and go to the shareholder meeting. sterno has repeated one of the most efective methods of assulting big business. The problem with this? $$$ Not all slashdotters have the liquid resources to go buy stock in an attempt to force justice from big business. Additionally, cause a stink at a board meeting, and your stock may drop. But he is correct. If they fail to listen to the majority of pissed off stockholders, the company then has to answer to those stockholders, possiibly in court. If I remember correctly, this method of corporate watchdogging was mentioned a while back here on slashdot.
Same thing here. Love the DC240. Wolf Camera even gave me an extra 16 meg flash card under a promo. It held its price for nearly 6 months (a rare thing in electronics) and only recently, can the DC280(?) be purchased for about the price we paid for the DC240.
Looked at the Mavicas, but 1.42 meg of space fills up REAL quick. The DC240 dumps to linux like a dream too, so I cant complain.
ONly add on I'v purchased was a sansdisk reader, because I got tired of batteries wearing out while transfering to machine.
So your out at the bar knocking down a couple bud lights and your wife is at home geting raped because some script kiddie cracked your toaster. Think I'm kidding, I'M NOT.
*sarcasm* Come on now. We all know that the toaster would be in the APPLIANCES domain, and the door locks are in the SECURITY domain, and that there is NO way, what with all that NT domain security, that the toaster could touch resources in the SECURITY domain. */sarcasm*
Would decryption violate the DMCA?
* kidding *

We can go one farther.
My younger brother is paid, by his university, to take notes, on behalf of another student with a disability.
Glad it isnt in California.

I use the Divx codec to encode movies of my kids to send to family. Makes them smaller, cleaner and thus easier to distribute.

A very interesting website.

Sure, I trust the. NOT.
Under the current administration, we MUST mention "protecting the children".

I use gphoto, obtainable from www.gphoto.org.
To use USB, you need to have a newer kernel.

If you cant find one, or not interested in setting it up and taking additional desktop space, there are a number of decent C64 emulators available for the PC.
