People outside of the US are of course free to express their opinions. Just as I am free to ignore them as irrelevant noise.
That is fair and I agree... but when it is the majority of the world outside of the US that is expressing these opinions, don't you think something strange is happening?
The other point I had is that our international policies are not the viewpoints of all (dare I say most) Americans.
Again, this I understand, and I am not yet one of those people who blankets every US citizen under the same umbrella - although let me tell you, many do. You say "dare I say most" and yet the polls are still firmly 50/50. What gives? - but back on topic, how do the rest of the world change their opinions if they can't see information on the candidates proposed foreign policy?
Personally I don't care for the site, but I can see why people are suspect at it being blocked. What need is there? It just creates a negative suspicious view. People say DOS is a problem - how so? Last I checked the page isn't 404'ing, but returning html.. and therefore the server can still be DOS'd. And anyway, get real - this isn't being run from someone's basement, but on one of the biggest content providers in the world.
And I am sorry to say it, but that is exactly the attitude that leads to the hate of Bush and the US worldwide.
If you are weary of the outside world trying to influence your politics, then bloody well stop trying to affect other peoples politics. I mean seriously, was that a troll? You can't invade other countries and then turn around and say "Why the hell are the rest of the world interested in our politics?"
But I forgot, the UN didn't agree with the US, so the UN is automatically irrelevant. Better go veto another Israel policy eh...
I would agree to this, but the philosophy has its own problems - say I want to run exim on woody... woody still uses exim 3, and if you go to the exim homepage, they state
"Exim 3 and previous versions are now considered obsolete. Exim 3 is not being developed any further, nor is it being actively maintained"
And therefore in order to use up to date secure packages, I end up using backports, and thus might as well be using testing anyway due to the package dependancies etc.
If I want to run an up to date version of horde, I need newer versions of php/pear etc than woody offers, and thus have to backport again... and it goes on...
True, but you've also just removed 95% of the usefulness of the network... just like NAT'ing to save IP addresses removes the usefulness of end to end comms. All these fixes serve is to undermine the quality of the internet as a whole.
I had a nice one from the M$ activation service. Phoned up to activate outlook I think it was, and without taking any information from me, they just read me out the code (presumably to speed the call because people were waiting). Whats the point in handing out activation codes unless you are going to actually confirm the caller isn't using a pirate copy anyway?
Well when I upgraded recently and when I looked into various benchmarks at the time, the P4 2.6 was basically on a level field with the XP 3000+ and even gave the 3200+ a run for its money. And the P4 2.6 was cheaper. And I can get the P4 2.6 up to 3.2 or even 3.4. So at the time, I was swung to P4. Not to mention the P4 running at those speeds doesn't need a jet fan to cool it or pencil marks adding to the chip to overclock - just stock fan and bios setting tweaks...
Well in my opinion, the lower price of AMD chips is the *only* reason they are getting more of a market share. People who chose price first will buy AMD. Fact is P4 was and is better than the Athlon XP in terms of performance and overclocking, period. (don't know about the 64 so won't comment)
Ok, this isn't a troll, and I know nothing much about OS driver development, but would it be so hard to write some kind of linux translator for Windows drivers, or some kind of uniformed driver which worked across OS's for situations where the original company has gone out of business/company doesn't produce drivers for alternative OS's...?
Yes but the fact is, for the majority of adsl users, bit torrent doesn't offer greater speed because of the asymmetrical properties of the line. (and adsl is surely one of the most popular access methods nowadays). I can download at 60k/s on a 512 dsl line from a normal server. But since I can only upload at 20-30k/s, bit torrent will limit my download to this amount (or in most cases, much less)
Indeed, I find it ridiculous, especially because GTA began its life on the PC.
BBC has a good vote site BBC

He is, however, wrong to say "liscense"
P4 already offers a higher 800mhz fsb than the Athlon XP range.
Thought this was about hacking a greenhouse for a minute... back to my coffee...
How can 'small scale testing' prove anything to be safe?
I've clocked my 2.6 p4 up to 3.2 stable with stock cooling... so huge fans aren't always necessary...

Oh dear, worse than spam is hundreds of thousands of Slashdotter sperm samples winging their way to NYT...
"and one step closer to Billy coming over your TV every morning"
Why would Billy be coming over my TV???!!!! Ok already!! I'll buy an xbox!!
Oh... I thought they were already :-p

You obviously aren't quite understanding just how much bandwidth SuperJanet has then...
Would the same modem blinking affect be observed on network switches or routers which have LED indicator lights?

Its a mini adventure!

Looks like this GNAA is going for the new slashdot karma - not first post, but all posts..
Try the free client at www.skype.com. Implements end to end encryption... I've found it works well.
Oh and the DOS 640k was never the amount of RAM the system had... it was the maximum amount of conventional memory DOS allowed.
