  2. Re:How about.. on Modding Laser Tag Gear? · · Score: 1, Interesting

I live in missouri which has just recently passed a concealed carry law, but this incident happened about 2 years ago. I had been out hunting and as per usual in addition to my rifle i was also carrying a handgun (because you never know...). It got to be about 1pm and I decided to go back to town for lunch. On my way through town i decided it might be a good idea to stop and check on something at the sheriff's building. (See where this is heading?) I hoped out of my car and went into the building. I walked up to the reception window only to be met with the window being slammed shut and 3 deputies running out of various doors in the lobby. It was then that i realized where i had made a critical mistake. I had forgotten to remove the holster from my thigh and beyound that i had forgotten to remove the contents of said holster. It was all cleared up with in a few short minutes, but does bring up an interesting point. It is not illegal to carry a weapon in any state (IANAL, check before you try if you do, i do not garuntee this information to be true) as long as the weapon is not concealed and you have the right to own the weapon. This may not be correct but i know it is here because all they did was escort me out of the building after things were explained and allowed me to secure the weapon in my vehicle. As far as airsoft weapons go if they can not be easily distinguished from a real firearm and they are used for a crime they will be treated as a real firearm in court. The above is what i believe to be true, I am not a lawyer, in case of mistakes, refer to the sig.

  3. Heres an idea.. on Congress to Test Air Screening Program · · Score: 1, Interesting

As opposed to spending countless millions (billions?) on different systems to screen people every time they fly why not just require everyone flying in the U.S. to have a valid passenger's liscence. I don't like the idea, but i think this is a much cheaper method and I also believe there are much better things that the money spent on these new systems could be doing. IF you liscense everyone then you only have to screen them each time they renew as opposed to scanning through thousands of people every minute

  4. Major point in Cable vs. DSL on Qwest To Offer 'Naked DSL' · · Score: 0

Heres something allot of people tend to overlook in this arguement. Most cable companies don't bother to try and keep thier network up if a power outage occurs, atleast in this area. I mean really how many people would keep their TV on a backup powersource. Telephone systems on the other hand are much more hardened. Most slashdotters i am sure have above average computers/networks and i am sure allot of them have a UPS on thier equipment. With DSL when the lights go out you can continue browsing the internet without a problem. On the other hand, your power goes out and so does your cable service, sure none of your equipment powered down, but your ISP's routers and the such sure did.

actually i don't think the new impalas are and i drive one lol. Hell, there for awhile they made an impala that was 4dr, with a V8 350, and you know what? all it was was a caprice with a little differnt trim (i think they made them from 94-96). They were exactly the same car, but if a dealer ship sold you one and then delivered a Caprice I would be pissed and so would GM. ATI should be doing something about this, because otherwise thier OEMs will begin selling other chips as what they are not and before long they will start doing it with more expensive things.

The AMD anologies aren't really that effective here because AMDs claims are true, they do perform the same but they DO NOT say that its a 3000mhz processor, they say its a 3000+, and if you read the fine print on the packaging it lists the true mhz value. Lableing a 9000 as a 9200 is deceptive exspecially if they were using the 9200 logo.

  7. Letter? Lucky you. on How Much Broadband Usage is Too Much? · · Score: 0

About 4-5 years ago when they first rolled out DSL service in this area I jumped on it, after all i had been hosting fansubs on a FTP and IRC fserv on a 56k for a long time and bandwidth would be greatly appreciated. So poof along i went serving not really paying attention to my usage, generally getting 700k/s+ upload alone. This of course meant nothing to me,i was happy to give back and loving the download speeds along with it. This went on for about 5 months when finally smart man from my ISP showed up at my door and just asked "WTF are you doing!". Turns out that they had had to fly people in to figure out why thier network was so slow and then were working with lawyers for 2 months to see if they could legally do anything about me. When they finally figured out that the easiest way to find out was just ask me they sent this guy out who was frankly amazed that i wasn't doing anything illegal and even more so that i was doing it with a k6-2 400 w/ 128mb pc-100.

Yes i had signed up for unlimited service, but most ISPs always leave that 'this aup is subject to change at any time' clause in there, and yes my isp exercised its right to rewrite its policies and place a cap on my connection. It was decent i still had about 50k/s up and was burstable (sudden things went really fast but it would throttle down long transfers). It was also quite a small ISP so I began correspondence with the Admins and they would on occasion disable my caps to see what would happen. They also never said anything about the fact that to this day i haven't shutdown my FTP or anything.
The moral? play nice, if they ask you to tone it down do, you can throttle your own connection. It costs them allot for bandwidth even if they do over sell it, but your probably making other users have more headaches becaue your using all of the over sold bandwidth. be a good neighbor, set it for 15k and leave it for a few days. Those 18gigs of porn can wait a few days to get there, anticipation is the best part. -cheers

When i first started watching anime it was back in the day of vivo fansubs, and I have to say I would much rather have a sub then a dub. I don't speak japanese, but i can understand it, you listen to the tones of the voice and pick out the words you do know, i still read the subs (kind of, it wierd how i do it now, i don't look directly at them, but still kind of read them...). The quality of most dubbed anime in the US is at best good. Not all anime has good original voice acting either, and i do notice, but there are allot of series that they can't recreate. Someone mentioned Kenshin, thats a good example of a poor job, a good one that for some reason i liked was Ranma 1/2, it was a good job. Subs are also good for another thing, you learn to read fast. I had a friend that struggled with reading, when he got hooked on some series on Cartoon Network I moved him to fansubs I had, he does fine now. So, its educational, conveys the emotions of the charector better, and we like it. I don't force subs on other people, and normally i don't bitch about anti-anti-subs arguements.
