Can you imagine the scene at the Best Buy where your average techo-noobie is talking to some pimply faced nerd trying to sell them this player?
Pimpleface: Yeah this is a really cool player - check out the resolution on this TV
Noobie: Great I'll take one
PF: Just one thing sir, you need a home LAN connection to the internet to make this thing work
Noob: a home LAN? What's a LAN
PF: Our associates over at Geeksquad can help you set one up - for a fee of course...
Noob: Wha?!? Huh?!?!
*no sale*
And besides how easy would that be to hack? If you have a home LAN to connected to this stoopid box - you could easily spoof the DNS or IP its looking for and redirect its traffic
Agreed - and thank you for that breath of non-communist agitprop fresh air.
While it may be true that resources can run out - they typically won't be replaced with anything until there is an actual shortage.
In other words - as we truly run out of something (as opposed to an artificial shortage) market forces cause the invention/adaptation of new technologies or resources. (i.e. whale oil replaced with kerosene)
Conservation prolongs the inevitable - but it doesn't prevent anything - and therefore is pointless
Considering how many mouth breathers seem to think that the roads are for playing "BOB THE BUILDER TRUCK DRIVER SIMULATION" and not getting from point A to Point B, I'd love to see this ABOLISHED here. I NEVER follow the speed limits to the letter becasue I've NEVER seen an REASONABLE speed limit anywhere in my travels. (I've driven in almost every state except, Hawaii and Alaska) Sorry folks, but the roads are for people like me to get from one place to another IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME WITHOUT DEALING WITH SAFETY NAZI IDIOTS. If you want to DRIVE LIKE A RETARD, go find a race track at DISNEY WORLD and have at it. If you want to get your ESTROGEN rush on, then play "BOB THE BUILDER TRUCK DRIVER SIMULATION". Otherwise, GET THE FUCK OFF THE ROADS....
Good question - however if this a decentralized p2p network, how could they possibly control it?
How hard would it be to tunnel.MP3s as.WMAs?
What I would love to see is Mircrosoft unleash this beast on the internet - market the crap out of it - get everyone to accept it - then see someone create a wrapper application to disguise illegal files which would all spread like wildfire across an an uncontrolled network!
get some friends down the road towards the CO - Light a T1 (s/b $400/mo) at one of their homes. Score some cheap wifi gear then head down to the store and get some cans of Pringles and VOILA!
I once developed an application exclusively for Sears on the platform IBM wrote exclusively for Sears called CICS for OS/2. It was mondo bizzaro - but it was kewl..
And true - the last Mainframe I saw had an OS/2 controller terminal connected to it. So me thinks that IBM will probably never open source it.
As for women in CS, nobody seems to want to admit that thier brains aren't "wired" for it in general. There are plenty of good ones out there to be sure, but increasing their numbers is a round peg/square hole problem.
The women that are good in the CS world know it, are good at it and gravitate to it automatically.
Yes yes your communist agitprop is funny ...
HA HA HA HEE HEE HEE
Also very well thought out and articulated
Yes I can see it now - with witty posts like that, I'm sure the Democrats can't possibly lose the next election.
I wonder if he can make a new webserver out of FedEx boxes ;)

Not at all - Think of it this way. We are all just simply collectively changing our minds about spam.
Now instead of deleting this kind of email, we are actually looking at and taking them up on thier offer for free porn, viagra and discount drugs.
Its a simple business transaction - nothing more.
If they fall victim to thier own success of marketing - how can that be our fault?
re:below

Somebody tell MS to update thier F6 procedure when trying to install XP or 2k03 on newer hardware. The F6 option STILL only wants stuff on a floppy!
