I'm sorry... there is nothing about the Floyd/Oz thing thats a coincedence. It was a clever marketing tactic by Pink Floyd as we're still talkng about it 30 years later.
No argument. I ended up with my first came cube because my g/f wanted the zelda title that only shipped with it (the emulation). I ended up with a second game cube because another g/f wanted mario party 7, and pario party 7 + controller is 75$, and the mario party gamecube bundle was 99$
In the US many universities have similar stances--B
Historically, Universities were seen as guardians of young adults that parents entrusted to keep their kids safe, and in that vein many universities, while they had no LEGAL basis for it, assumed many of the responsibilities and rights of a parent.
My (public) University had a rule that you would be expelled if you were in a fight. On campus, off campus, anywhere.
Its more likely to protect themselves from some kind of legal action. They can claim now they sell more than one OS, and they sell AMD processors. Its totally bullshit, but they have plausable deniability.
I know of quite a few people who bought a GC to go alongside a PS2 or an Xbox, because of its comparatively low price.
It's more then that. I have a GC for Nintendo brand games, which are always very high quality and very well designed. Most games I buy Its very clear that nobody every seriously play-tested them, because the games have annoynances and bugs that would have been fixed during the process... for instance:
Nightmare Before Christmas: To save your game you have to goto a specific character, and talk to him after which he gives you the same advice about saving EVERY time, and finally, after 6 or 7 button presses you get to the saving menu, you have to select which slot to save in, confirm, then 3 button presses to exit the menu. Also, if you turn off the subtitles in the game, then if characters don't have an audio recording of what they're saying -- you stand there and watch their lips move. No subtitles, no audio. All bullshit:)
By contranst, when I buy a nintendo title I know its going to be well designed, and not suffer from any of these issues. Which is important to me. I dont have much time to play games, and I don't have time to be frustrated while Im doing it.
Seriously... don't worry... Sony is evil but not stupid. This is just an R&D lab patenting an invention. No where does it actually say sony will implement this in the PS3.
I use OGG and FLAC because Im that kind of jerk. What concerns me is... why cant the IPOD support these formats? Several Korean manufacturers do. Also, when I put music on my ipod, I expect to be able to copy it off without special software. Thats just common sense.
Im just saying the only chance we have of getting a "good" rulling is if its in a corporations favor, not that this ruling in itself is bad. I think history shows that the deck is stacked against individuals.
yea its bad... whats even worse is the main app is written in VB, which calls a communications library written in python, which makes up to 6 copies of ANOTHER library written in VB. The whole thing was cobbled together as a proof of concept because a very good engineer decided to quit, and the company said to him "instead of quitting, tell us what YOU want to work on" (which was actually quite forward thinking). So he invented this software and a fairly amazing test fixture which automates a lengthy manufacturing process which until then was being done by hand. So the automated process was producing way better tolerances than the by hand method, so our customers started demanding that all units pass through the process. So management decided to deploy the system even though it was a protoptype, and it actually worked sort of ok for awhile. But clean room space is very expensive, so someone had the bright idea of, well, we can connect more then one test fixture to a computer and save that space (saves about 50k for each fixture that doesn't need its own computer). So at that point the prototype VB real time application was extended to work with more than one fixture, and thats when all hell broke loose:)
Business and engineers are usually directyl opposed to eachother. At my place of business, I am currently debugging a real time data acquisiton system written in visual basic. I shit you not. Needless to say it is extremely ugly. People have a very hard time thinking outside their (sometimes small) range of knowledge.
No person making six figures or more is paying even 25%
I make 6 figues and Im paying about 42% between state and federal... if you know some secrets please share them. From everything I've been able to figure out the only way I can qualify for deductions is by doing impractical things that will end up costing me more money in the long run.
Lots of credit cards offer disposable CC numbers. They work once for one purchase. Discover, Citicard, and American Express come to mind. Discover even has a craptacular app which fills out online forms for you.
Having been previously and currently employed in labratories and RND departments, considering myself to know something about the subject... id like to point out that this is a TECHNIQUE, not a Technology.
More countries should do this. However, theraflu which is the only drug I think known to help the brid flu takes a year to manufacture. It''ll all be over by then.
I think the point is that in the West we're a bunch of spoiled babies
Maybe, maybe not. But what the FUCK does that have to do with ipod's? Nothing except they are a luxury.
The problem I think with your statement is that it implies more or less that having anything is wrong. I work 10 - 12 hours a day in a very tough industry. I pay 42% taxes off the top... at what point am I *ALLOWED* to have an ipod? If im not allowed to have anything, whats my incentive for working at all? If nobody worked then nobody would have anything. So to all of you who like to act righetous about conditions in 3rd world countries... just remember it takes a LOT of people and a LOT of human energy and commerce to build the comforts and luxuries you want 3rd worlders to have access to.
Um, strawman argument. What you're saying is, until we are as bad as some other places, we have no right to complain? So I can't complain about high taxes, a government run by and for bafoons, because at least we're not as bad as some other placse?
Just because other places are fucked up, doesn't mean apple gets to sell defective stuff (assuming that it is defective). The arguments have nothing to do with eachother...
2 buses? Wow. There are none in most of the US.
I'm sorry ... there is nothing about the Floyd/Oz thing thats a coincedence. It was a clever marketing tactic by Pink Floyd as we're still talkng about it 30 years later.

Perhaps to protect intel and microsoft then?

What would you call AAC then? AAC is the only reason I don't own an ipod.

For a minute I thought the court was being fair minded ... but now I see that this benefits a corporation so naturally they ruled this way.
If its all the same to you, can I sit this revolution out? :) I did all the other ones and im just a bit tired of all the revolving.

That simply can't be true. If I am paying less ... someone else has to pay more. And why do I have the feeling I am going to be in the more category?
I make 6 figues and Im paying about 42% between state and federal... if you know some secrets please share them. From everything I've been able to figure out the only way I can qualify for deductions is by doing impractical things that will end up costing me more money in the long run.
Every tax proposal I see somehow provides extreme benefit to the extremely wealthy. Is the fair tax any different?

Eh, thats like trading a yoke for a saddle. You're still being taken for a ride.
More countries should do this. However, theraflu which is the only drug I think known to help the brid flu takes a year to manufacture. It''ll all be over by then.
I fear you may have missed mine -- that the people who've got some of it are also the people who make it all.
