In protest of the show being canceled, someone in Chicago hijacked the airwaves of 2 TV stations. It's pretty amusing, unfortunately the only site that had video clips of it is down. Here's some information though:
Please, if you run konqueror, upgrade to the new version. It's bad enough trying to keep things compatible with all the netscape 4.7 users who refuse to upgrade.
If you don't trust your government, then fine. Why do you trust the corporations then?
Because the companies can't send you a ticket when you buy gas on one side of town, and then make a purchase on the other side of town faster than the speed limit would allow.
Just wait until they start talking about an international (global?) standard passport, that fits on a card.
Now that would be something where the benefits might actually outweigh the negative aspects.
Otherwise, if its just national id, which we pretty much have already with the NCIC, then I really don't see the benefits, except for the police.
Presently the only clear benefit for regular people is not having to worry about a potential hassle going into a bar... which probably doesn't matter to a vast majority of the population.
Also, maybe they should work on reforming the DMV's before they start working on a national standard ID.
It doesnt look like you can see through it. I mean, it covers your entire eye. So while it's cool, you wont be walking around like the terminator any time soon.
I'd rather see it go to the trademark holders than to the domain squatters. It's ridiculous how many domains have been eaten up by company's whose sole purpose is to try and resell the domains for a higher price than they bought them for. It's much like scalping.
Much of the Midwest is in SBC territory since they bought out Ameritech.
Yeah, but this guy isn't even in the midwest, or has a very hazy idea of where it's located. He says he's in Virginia. That's either the south, or the east, but certainly not the midwest.
I also must say, if he's paying for a residential line and using it for business, then he's essentially cheating the phone company and of course they aren't going to be so kind about compensating him. If he (or better, his company) had paid for a business line, there would certainly be more reason to bitch.
This is the problem, people try to dance around the logical rules that are set, and then complain when it eventually bites them in the ass.
Google is probably going to end up being a 'yellow pages' type search directory instead of a full-fledged search engine.
Funny you say that, since that's the exact search engine model they're replacing. For example, yahoo's search engine is now powered by google...
There's nothing wrong with making a buck. They're still being awfully nice about it. Infact quite often, those ads are actually worth clicking on because of how targetted they are.
If they were at least semi-intelligent, the would have simply claimed they invented it, taken the notoriety for doing so and left it at that. Then they would be in publications left and right, and would have a much happier bit of history associated with their name.
Instead, they're effectively challenging their own claim, looking like bad guys and will surely lose in any reasonable court of law.
You can check Sierra's page for the Spacequest series here, it gives a good over on each of the games and the cover art is nostaligia in itself.
I really hope they do release this, and its not just rumor. I think I would actually be compelled to purchase a game for the first time in years. Maybe I'm just old though, I hope people who never played the originals will check it out.
There has to be some better use for this technology. Instead of looking at the rental space, maybe they should concentrate their efforts on using them as promotional materials or something else which can be given away for free to the end user.
At least it's slightly better than DivX in that with DivX, you needed to purchase a special multihundred dollar player. DVD players are of course readily becoming a dime a dozen now.
Children and teenagers are leading the way. Ninety percent (or 47.4 million) of children between the ages of 5 and 17 now use computers at home and at school; 75% percent of 14- to 17-year-olds, and 65 percent of 10- to 13-year-olds use the Internet. Households with children under the age of 18 are more likely to access the Internet (62.2 percent) than households with no children (53.2 percent).
Looks to me like a lot of those figures are based on kids using the library computer at school. Most other use can be attributed to people who have internet connections at work. The rest to people who have an AOL account, and aren't *really* on the internet per se.
Then you have to give some thought to what it is people use their internet connection for, if they even use it regularly. I'd assume if they do use it regularly it would be for email.
Which leaves us, with... well, us. I still think there are an extraordinary amount of people who aren't getting the real internet "experience", if they're even getting past their AOL chatrooms or Hotmail accounts.
This is not a flame, this is not a troll. I'm just trying to say that the numbers aren't always what they appear to be.
Yeah, i can't believe it took them THIS long to finally release the australian soundtrack to the Us market. I don't know if other areas have been in a similar situation. The mere idea that we would need it to be overdubbed in the first place, is rather frustrating...even if it was originally released in pre-"Crocodile Dundee" days and many Americans had never heard an Australian accent before.

Google Cache with more information
Slightly less, but more direct information
To summarize, it involved a Max Headroom mask, a bare ass and a fly swatter, while Dr. Who was supposed to be playing.
Apparently you have to wear it with your shirt off to get the full effect.
No surpirse, since yahoo uses google as their search engine, see here.
Do we need 1000 (repeated) posts about how this is a repeat?
I didn't think so.
Why .jp2??? Why not .jpeg2.
.mp3 and we dont have a .mpeg3 extension in active use.
Because they're latching onto the idea (and popularity) of
If we aren't all using PNG right now, there's no way we're gonna be using jp2
I think we're just stuck with jpeg and gif for about the next 5-10 years, until browsers in general get reinvented.
I bet you can't wait til they have their own distribution.

Credit cards are optional, ID's are not.

Of course they're related. What do you expect?

This is why employers generally frown upon nepotism in the work place. If only the government and hollywood were the same.

Someone at the LA Times did something similar to this in the middle of last year. It's a much more amusing article. At least I think so.

Looks as though some fans are also intending to release a version of Space Quest VII
http://www.sq7.org/about.php
It also gives a good bit of detail about why there haven't been any recent games in the series.

Thats really cool, but did it really have to be of Ally McBeal?
I hope he gets that into a museum somewhere.
How many viable OS' are there for the Intel/AMD box (that have more than 5% usage) mmm.
:)
This is the same reason someone needs to go after Apple and Sun.
This version has the original Aussie soundtrack.
