  2. My naming scheme. on I Want Names for my Servers! · · Score: 1

Well..after reading this article i realized that i have a very sad naming scheme.

    Workgroup: mbrez
    croom_001_ws - My machine
    croom_002_ws - Dads machine
    aroom_001_ws - Sister's
    croom_001_linsrv - linux box

So I got thinking..why am I using those!
    I decided to rename

    Workgroup: Simpsons
    Lisa - My machine (fast..smart..leader)
    Homer - Dads Machine (slow..ugly..dumb)
    Maggie - Sister's (stupid..just there)
Apu - Linux Box (serves up stuff)

    Future names:
MrBurns - Fileserver (tons of money..tons of space)
Marge - Print server (always complaining)
Wiggum - Firewall (protector of the network)
    Rodd - Primary DNS
    Todd - Secondary DNS
    Moe - FTP server
    Itchy - Primary Mail
    Scratchy - Secondary Mail

Soo..thats my new naming scheme..thanks to the peer pressure of /.

I just got my first five moderator points last week and loved every minute of it (Suprized me too..didnt know what the little boxes were until I asked some people :) )

I have always thought that everyone should be given the chance to moderate (except for ACz). Then if like 100+ people agree it gets moderated up/down. This would allow the good stuff to be eliminated from the bad stuff easier. Though you should also have moderators who can change them w/o a majority rule.

I also have to thank Rob and the great /. crew that keeps this thing chugging along. I found this site a few months ago and now I'm addicted. (anyone know were I can go get help? Support groups? or should I check myself into a hospital ASAP?) [Other suggestion for /. put like a 30 or so minute refresh on the main page so I dont have to hit the refresh button on my browser every 30 minutes..yes..i am extremly lazy :)]

You people make me sick. I dont care if he hates perl..hates linux..loves microsoft..it DOESNT MATTER!! What matters is that a truely good person died at a young age. Put yourself in his kid's shoes. If they came across the trash I see in this form I know that they would collapse crying. If your mom/dad/bestfriend died would you like reading posts about them saying how screwed up they were and how they deserve to die? As for you AC what the hell is your problem? To turn this around i hope to god that you die or someone you truly love dies! How does that feel? If you have a heart you would be sickened by that. Would act like this at his funeral? I think not. As for the rest of you. Dont complain that he didnt like something or that he did like something. He just wrote a few books. Now back to crying (not cause of his death but the crappy posts that all of you loosers had to post)

  8. Screwed up world on Quack! · · Score: 1

I have to admit that this world is getting more screwed up by the minute. I grew up on television. I learned and still learn more from TV than I do at school. The problem with the kids of this world is not tv and technology it's these bone head teachers who only show up to get their paycheck. Though there are some good dedicate educators out there, my experience is that 90% of them could careless about the kids. Now on to the net issue. I admit I spend way too much time on the internet. The problem is that my city is so spreadout and there usually is no way for me to get to these places. I get my license in 7 days. After that I dont plan on being here that much =). Also this is summer! What are you suppose to do in summer? Relax. I have a summer job like most kids. But instead of flippin burgers or stocking pet supplies, I got a job doing websites. I make more per month than all of my friens make per year. And this is a steady income, not just a summer job. Technology is great. Because of it I can now afford to go to a nice college. To all parents/guardians out there. Let your kids watch tv. Let them use the net. Just as long as their grades don't suffer.
