It would have been a saner to compare sizes of PS1 games vs sizes of PS2 games. Sequels on the same hardware needn't grow much because the original game tries to make as much use of the hardware as possible. I don't think a game made for tnt2 would occupy as much space as a game optimised for lets say gef3 class of hardware...

There is a reason why RMS insists it is "Free software" and not "open source software". There is an ethical aspect of the philosophy of free software which is cast aside when you say "open source software". He mentioned this explicitly on many occasions.
Also I think it is a ridiculous question to ask (the mainpage post).
If a game is good and people are playing it instead of playing other games, it means the standard for good games is rising. *That* is always good for the customer. I do not think people would continue to keep paying for the subscription if it was not so good. If the game was good and I thought I'd rather play WoW instead of buying NFS 28, or FIFA 2020 that would be because I am *choosing* to spend my money on better games and am in no way being *forced* to play WoW.

Looks like doing it so that *you* have fun is selfish. Doing it so that the community can benefit is what is selfless. Moreover I think it is inappropriate to try to project FSF in bad light by calling their goal an "agenda".

A Ph. D is for someone who wants to pursue research in a field. Don't commit to 3+ years of study at any university just because your prof thinks it may be a good thing to do. If you don't have the interest/aptitude for research, you should not be getting into it.
As for the industry, let the examples speak:
Google hires Ph. Ds
Apple hirese Ph. Ds
NVidia hires Ph. Ds
(There would be more, but I'm not your google assistant)

One would think that after the source code leak people at Valve would be ultra-cautious with things like this. It now makes me wonder if they let some "accidents" happen often to keep up the interest in the game and perhaps as publicity stunts?
The Klipboard feature helps solve this very problem (though it may have other functions as well). Just have it always running on your KDE bar and this problem is mostly solved. All I have to do is go to the Klipboard and select what I want to paste. You may ask "Isn't it the same as copying again?" but it isn't. It is much easier and you could have closed the app from which you copied the text...
"You will have to purchase a copy of the game to get a valid Neverwinter Nights CD-Key. Of course, with this purchase you also get a lovely Neverwinter Nights mapkin, a spiral-bound game manual, and three plastic-coated aluminum-reinforced W1nd0z3 brand coasters."
Never expected that from the bioware guys =] but a nice touch all the same
steve: Hey Bill, didya' see that news on/. about that balloon?
Bill: Yeah, I've secretly been following the project. We've just helped launch a space-shuttle with XP in it. Let me go and post the news on/.

I was reading through this thread and was wondering what one hyped game going bad can do to a developer.
I'm a college students and working on making a game with some of my pals and i can only begin to see what it takes to make a game and ship it (and one as popular as Doom!). It takes immense talent and loads of work to come out with stuff of that kind. It takes a lot of guts to try out what Diakatana started as.
I am not saying it's bad people have all sorts of jokes about him here. What i *am* trying to say here is that he deserves more respect for what he's done.
I believe John Romero deserves more credit and respect than he is given
hey ins't this ridiculous.
this is like knowing our opinion/answer to something without our consent.
what if i did like their product but didn't want to tell them about it in the hope of a better deal ?

Also, do not forget Rogue Squadron (esp when played with a joystick) and pod-racer
Since the post says "for any n" it means I can choose any value of "n" that I find convenient.
Let us take n = 0
now that gives us a^0 = b^0 + c^0
which implies 1 = 1 + 1
which is 1 = 2
which is absurd. Therefore our assumption that a^n = b^n + c^n must be wrong!
Q E D!
now why did my mathematics teacher thing I was no good at it...
I do not know (guess why?) what the article says but EA definitely did not work as effectively and as fast as /. did on that website...
