    $1275 for a used cube is cheap? Macs retain value like a BMW, if you want a mac you might as well just buy a new one for $1200 or so from apple.

    This is cool but I am surprised to hear them say "A find like this does make us question the trees people have built up of human evolution". Of course there are forks in evolution. I don't think the human is a direct ancestor of the ape, rather the apes and humans likely evolved separately from a similar much older species.

    A dual GPU graphics board would be slow. Even dual CPU systems only gain from having a second processor when there are very large portions of data to be crunched. Single CPU systems are more efficient and doing high numbers of small tasks, such as rendering real time graphics.

    Yeah you can set status to do not bother or something and give a hand full of users exclusive rights to contact you, but I don't want ot do that, and most the spam I get is not multiple-recipient they just send one message to every # and keep going. The good news is that since I have an old (read: low) ICQ UIN that spammers have all but haulted sending spam to that UIN block (nobody home).

    Could the brain stimulation from playing games cause it to be bored in social situations? The level of brain activity is reduced, but are the IQ's of the subjects (while 'alert') also reduced? I don't game but I would sort of agree with the study having changed jobs to one where I interact much less with people.

    Who wants to spend vacation at a rental car company reading contracts? They should tell you up front. Them telling me I can't speed would be like you paying me to borrow my computer, then having me charge you extra on bring it back and telling you "you were not supposed to let the CPU load hit 100%, I was monitoring your use, didn't you read the fine print?" You say too many people are too stupid to drive, I agree, speed limits are there for the lowest common denomination.

    Lots of creatures today would do better if something were adjusted (though it would disturb the ecological balance), but is there evidence of them doing so? If a man were adjusted taller it's probably make him much better at basketball without throwing off the ecological balance to any great extent. Is there evidence that people are taller now? you bet.

    I have a 3 meg modem with Adelphia and after some windows tweaking (MSS*44 = RWIN) I usually stay consistent at 2500+ from fast servers. It also has a rock solid uptime. You couldn't pay me to trade my modem in for a T1. I hope the provider that buys Adelphia keeps my service at that level.

    PS. No matter how much tweaking I do in Windows I alway get a better throughput on my Linux partitions. I've tested this with multiple *nix/win* operating systems, configs, and computers and am still looking for more information on why.
