  1. Gas is one price per grade on Small Cable Groups Seek To Break Net Neutrality · · Score: 2, Insightful

The oil companies aren't charging different prices for what type of car/truck you drive or where it's being driven to or from. The oil companies charge by grade of gasoline, just as the cable and phone companies already charge for broadband tiers (speeds).

  2. Re:0o on VR Treatment for Lazy Eye · · Score: 3, Insightful

One of my sons has amblyopia. I recall that at age 2 there is something like a 98% chance of correcting it, and by age 9 there is a 2% chance. He tried the patch for quite a while with little improvement. A different doctor then had him get rid of the patch and had him use some drops in the 'good' eye instead. These drops would numb the focusing of the 'good' eye and allow the 'bad' eye to strengthen more by doing more work. It worked great!! He is now 12, long done with the treatment, and although his eyes are not perfect, they are very much improved. I only wish we had gone with the drops much earlier.

  3. Ultra-Powerful and FREE Linux Authoring Software on DVD Authoring Under Linux? · · Score: 1

Heroine Virtual Ltd. offers one of the most advanced "content creation systems" available, called Cinelerra. It runs on Linux, and it's FREE!! It's not for the faint of heart, but you'll have the power of the big boys.

    From the USPTO FAQ:

#50 How does one file protest on patents that are pending?

Protests by a member of the public against pending applications will be referred to the examiner having charge of the subject matter involved. A protest specifically identifying the application to which the protest is directed will be entered in the application file if: (1) The protest is submitted prior to the publication of the application or the mailing of a notice of allowance under rule 1.311, whichever occurs first; and (2) The protest is either served upon the applicant in accordance with rule 1.248, or filed with the Office in duplicate in the event service is not possible. For more detailed information on protesting a patent, you may visit our Web site at http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/mpep/mpep.htm for the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure (MPEP) Chapter 1900.

...with our insatiable appetite for bargain prices. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal just had an excellent article on this subject. One item to note from the article is how Wal-mart ran a "Buy American" campaign through the 1980's, and now, if Wal-Mart were a nation, it would be China's eighth-largest trading partner, ahead of Britain and Russia. Kiss your American job goodbye!

  7. Dangers of outsourcing overseas. on Transcriber Threatens Release of Medical Records · · Score: 4, Insightful

Companies are setting themselves up for a big hurt when they outsource overseas. This intance shows just some of the dangers and downfalls. Eventually, it's going to come around and bite them in the arse. What happened to all the forward thinkers? The over-zealous drive for profits and cost savings for today without thinking about tomorrow hurts us all - from the executives, to the workers, to the consumers, and, yes, even the shareholders. For example, America's technological edge is dying all because of overseas outsourcing. Why would any kid want to go to college for CS/IT when the job prospects are so miserable?

The lack of phone number is NOT primarily due to the growth in the number of cell phones, pagers, fax machines, modems, etc. This is a HUGE misconception. The actual fact is that every one of the hundreds of phone companies, large and small, have gobbled up big blocks of numbers in the hopes of providing local phone service. There are plenty of numbers, they're just not being used.

  12. If the DMCA applied to automobiles... on Apple Uses DMCA to Halt DVD burning · · Score: 2, Interesting

If the DMCA applied to automobiles, there would be a lot of criminals amongst us. Everyday there are people modifying their vehicles, and there are companies that provide kits to do it. Now I'm in no way a "shop-jockey", but I do believe that some of these kits modify the electronics components as well. Are the auto manufaturers going to be sueing everyone left and right now, too? And what about modifications I do to my home? Because the builder has copyrighted the design, will I be in legal trouble under some broad term in the DMCA for remodeling it? The idiots who came up with this law, and those that passed it, need the big proverbial stick up-side the head.

They focus on ESM and infrastructure assessments (including security), design, and implementation, and their knowledge transfer during and after the project is superb. They have a long list of large high profile clients and partner with many top vendors. I think you'll find them reasonable priced and, in the end, you'd probably find you'd get the most and best quality for your money. JMHO.
