  1. Re:how long will it be before they tire of this ga on Yahoo China has the Worst Filtering Policy · · Score: 1

What China government doing is far more than blocking.

There are several super computers doing real time analyzation of bits getting in and out of China on the Internet. Right, real time analyzation. So you can read the CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox as long as the super computer thinks the piece of information you are reading is OK. So people inside China feel almost nothing. And people out side of China feel nothing about it.

One thing should be mentioned is that there is Gigabits of data getting in and out of China per second. Guess who is behind those super computers. Intel, AMD, IBM or SUN?

I have a lot of faith in Apple, but I'll find it very hard to purchase future products if these allegations are true, and the company that Jobs built is unwilling to take steps to ensure good living conditions for their employees.

As far as I have known, the Foxconn also manufactures products for DELL, HP, IBM, Lenova, Sony... The also food at Foxconn Shenzhen is not bad, and the dormitories get air conditioning. And the boss works 15 hrs a day too.

Othere Taiwan companies like Asus, Lite-On doesn't provide better condition for their employees. Japanese and Korean companies like LG, Samsung treat their employees in China even worse. So I guess you don't have a choice.

A funny story about Foxconn and iPod was that once Apple didn't take a big shipment of iPod Nano from Foxconn storage facility for a long time, and Foxconn got angry and sold all of the iPod nanos to their employees at the same price they sell to Apple. And those employees sold those ipod nano to the market, gee, they can make half year's salary from each iPod nano.

Don't know how much Walmart pays its janitors in US but I don't guess too much. As others like people working on assembly lines, I guess they are payed at level of $100 per month or more.

Also in this article the authors take Suzhou as part of Shanghai, it looks something like a piece of news saying the tobacco smelling Richmond become part of DC. I don't believe articles like that.

I think the authors saw somehting via a pipe, and trying to tell us something via a second pipe. Everything has been badly screwed.

  9. a surprise or a pitfall on MS Four Points of Interoperability and Adobe · · Score: 1

I think the pdf support in MS Office is a pitfall. There are bad things doomed to happen. For example, the script functionality of pdf in Adobe Acrobat is provided by embedding Spidermonkey javascript engine from mozilla.org, while in the MS Office, the only choice will be JScript from Windows Script Host. There are subtle differences between JScript and Javascript that prevent them from totally compatible. When MS Office begin to generate pdf, it will generate WSH compatible code, which will break Adobe Acrobat. Another step I can expec is that IE will support pdf native, and some pdf files generated by Acrobat won't work in the IE. As a result, when the MS Office pdf is omnipresent, there will be enough trouble for people, and all of us will have to give up Acrobat. As there will be no IE compatible pdf plugin for mozilla, firefox will loose pdf support too. Kill two birds with one stone.

Well, things can be different. If spidermonkey decide to support JScript or Adobe doesn't allow MS flirt with pdf, there won't be anything wrong.
