Excellent analogy! Also, if you take that and consider by digging a hole with improved technology, more houses can be built for the homeless (or people in general), infrastructure is improved... compared to several people wasting time by digging one hole. With improved technology, we can do more with better efficiency. How is that not a good thing?

Here is one question our proponents need to ask. Are we better off today because of the "Internet"? Imagine a world if it was never created. Despite all of its malfeasances, do the pro's still outweigh the con's? Of course, they do!

I totally agree with what you just said. I think, on the surface, it looks like a good idea but it just wouldn't be pratical for both companies at this time. Perhaps if the industry standards for personal and robust machines converged, I could see this happening and would make total sense. Until then, I think they make great bed fellows. Question is, who wears the pants?

Perhaps a disclaimer if windows offered all these options during a windows install saying something to the effect of "If you don't know what any of this is, click and press continue..."

You'd think the average user could read that and do what it says, whereby for all us geeks out there who know what computer partitions are, could then use full-functionality... Or perhaps a choice between common partition structures, to say the least.

If Microsoft were to do something like this to some effect, they should buy Powerquest to incorporate a PartitionMagic-like interface in the Windows install. I think it'd be smart for both companies. Either that, or Microsoft could create their own from GUI-interface from scratch.

IN America, we have the right to the 'pursuit of happiness', it doens't mean we'll necessarily ever actually have it for a long period of time. So to reply to the other ideas posted, we generally migrate to 'happiness' in all its forms. Suriving from the pains of reality is certainly the most basic. It's also a matter of choosing between inner and outer happiness, which ultimately is a choice of where do I want my pain to reside. Pain and happiness go hand in hand.

  11. Re:Geeky music on Google Launches Google Music · · Score: 1

This is where I would think Google music would take off or differiate itself from other online music retailers. Google, as a search engine, is so much more comprehensive than others, such as yahoo, for instance. I would imagine their music service would be the same, allowing you to find "unpopular" music with ease, especially when you have enough time trying to find it in a store. This seems to be the untapped market but not sure how lucrative it could be. Also, I would think overtime that Google music would become more competitive with their prices to Yahoo to gain market share considering I don't think there are that many "new" features that one could sell, as for music, for the customer's online buying experience.

  12. MSN $400 Rebate in CA and OR Stopped on Microsoft's Forgotten Mistakes · · Score: 1

let's not forget when Microsoft, specifically MSN, wrote one of their contracts wrong for those 3-year $400 rebate deals in California and Oregon. I used to work for MSN cancellations at the time whereby for a limited time, people in those two states could sign up for the rebate deal and wouldn't be responsible for the $400... the stores at Best Buy were pretty much looted.. legally... the call volume was insane. Best Buy employees started advertising this on billboards as one of MSN Employees (I wonder who?) leaked out this information to them. MSN lost millions of dollars just because their lawyer fucked up.. from what I heard from the inside, it was supposed to have been a simple contract but those 2 states had prior laws long ago inforcing about rebate deals that didn't apply today.. the lawyer added in extra clauses he didn't have to and fucked himself over.

Basically, when it comes right down to it. The big bucks that people shell out is for an image..that's what media live and breathes under..that's why they have over-priced CDs and when when people download "their" music, they see it as profit-loss of the image they hyped up. They don't see it as a fair reaction.. they see it as more of user taking advantage of (violating) them.. I dono't think prices will go down for "image" CDs since teenage preppy girls go for that shit.. but I think most "non-image" bands welcome the exposure of users downloading theirs music, as long as they can get reasonable profit from other areas of business.. so it all depends on who you want to support and give your money to.. within that.. that will make things change.. because the RIAA will always support the artists that bring in the money.. but I think some artists are more fair to their listeners than others.. For Me, the choice is clear.. support the artists you believe in.. buy their shit.. and to the rest of the "Hip gangsta wannabe's", download their shit. I think that's a balanced solution to the problem.
