The problem here is he's not looking at the bigger picture. In a congested big city you would be simply moving the traffic jam to the next traffic light. In bigger cities the lights all have to be coordinated so that you don't end up with a backlog of red light traffic that extends all the way back to the previous traffic light. And then having idiots that get stuck in the intersection blocking cross traffic.

Maybe it works in Greenville, population 100,000 but not in a city of 2-3 million or more.

To me the concern is not that the RCMP has the ability to monitor and record all voice and text communications in a cell, it's that so can anyone else who has the equipment. The fact that it's happening in the capital among all the government buildings is pretty concerning as it could be foreign governments, or whoever, spying on the Canadian government. Spying in this generation is nothing like the cold war and James Bond days of the 60s and 70s. The RCMP spying on my phone is the last of my worries. This is pretty serious stuff.

I think what is now DST should be the standard all year round. It gives better daylight time all year and we wouldn't have to deal with complete darkness at 5PM in winter. So what if the sun is over our heads at 1PM instead of 12PM. I don'e know about you but 12PM is not the halfway point in my day. Most people get up way after the sun's been up but stay up many hours after the sun's gone down. Adopting what is DST now as the standard all year would be perfect.
