uhmm, I just thought I would be an ass and point out that you should either remove the ".25" from the denominator or change your response to "~= 136.89".

Of course, if you went with the later it would certainly beg the question, "what is .89 sex"? If you are willing to overlook/justify the subtraction of 0.2 the response is easy. If not, I think I will have to refer you to Clinton for the answer...

I think you are missing the real point of open source development. The factions are what make the software better. The option to choose different features/solutions make the software better. The competition between project drive the project to improve.

Talk about trolling... Ok, what about 1000 "hobbyiest" split between 2 open source project v. 100 paid employees -- as if being paid somehow endows the person/project with talent and/or success.

You certainly could setup a channel to push .torrent files. Then the end user could simple launch BT to get the file (I realized this gets away from the push model a bit, but it would work now).

But, k2b could do this auto-magically by implementing helper applications, plug-ins, or META data. Such a framework would also provide a lot a flexibility for various file/channel types (ie. play songs from a music channel, stream channel data to a ticker, priority message alerts, etc). Now if only I wasn't so lazy...

Putting personal fear aside, I decided to go. After the initial brawl, where two people had to be taken away after being whopped in the head by a Ti Book, the meetup when fairly well. The turn out was ~25, and the last of us left the bar about 1am.

The thing that I found to be most interesting is the large number of people (myself included) who don't watch/have a TV for lack of interesting material, and time to watch the uninteresting material. I guess /. just don't enjoy staring into a CRT.

Other topics of conversation in not perticular order:

    • /. and blogs
    • NPR, The Onion, and the Daily Show -- the holy trilogy of news (or at least funny)... I won't mention JJ not reading /. anymore ;)
    • Local music and the persutes of a /.er record label
    • letterboxing and what the hell it is
    • standard OS conversations
    • academics vs. the real world (not the show -- although that might make an interesting program...)
    • Job market or lack thereof
    • Advertising and it's effect on us
    • Cowboy Neal -- ok, we didn't actually talk about him, but the list wouldn't be complete without him
All and all, a good evening. I think we might even get some returns next month.
