I've been using the original n-gage for quite about 9 months now. All i can say is if you've never used one, you don't know what you're missing.
I don't know about the n-gage hating lot but i carry around a cellphone whatever the occasion. I also like to be able to listen to music so i have a bigger MMC card in it with a few cds of music. It has a radio if i get bored of the mp3s i've got loaded at the time. If i wanted to make it a better music machine, i'd go out and buy a 70$ 1gig MMC to fit a few more cds.
Lots better in my opinion than carrying around another device (say the suffle, that bloody shuffles your music (!)) for just listening to music. Also a plus is that you can actually hear your phone ring with your headset on. It actually comes with an USB cable so you can use it instead of carrying around a USB stick memory.
Add to this Opera, Putty and a bunch of other useful apps and you have a winner (or it would be if people would give it fair chance).
On the gaming side, there's not much to be said. The only game i've really played is Pathway To Glory demo, it was good but i doubt i'll ever buy a game for it.
Anyways, this is just my 2 cents on this subject. Flame away.
Otherwise this baby sounds like a cool gadget, but the operating temperature on the 20gb version is limited:
Operating temperature: -4 to 125 degrees F
It's way colder than -4 outside at the moment. Not really ideal for northern people.
Personally i'd not ask slashdot about anything until i've tried every other place that crosses my mind. And after hitting my head on the wall for two weeks straight.

when you GOTTA stay awake you buy a tiny bottle of caffeine pills. lot cheaper than any drink and will definately do the job. not saying you won't start to tremble, feel sick, throw up etc. after too many. but still.
One of the most damaging aspects of logging as i see it is the machines that wheel around the woods destroying all the undergrowth. This one is a tiptoeing machine that'll leave all those little blueberries still pickable.
I'm no logger but i have seen many places just totally raped due mostly to wheelmarks etc.
I'd personally hate if my Daily Dilbert got filtered out. One of the few reasons i check my mail in the mornings.
