Yeah, you're right...it's much better now that we have unbelievably high divorce rates, kids killing each other, children having sex (and babies), college students that can't read, presidents that think it's ok to lie to the american people, and thousands of people going to hell because they refuse to hear the truth. Thanks atheists and liberals, thanks.:-D
And then there are those of us who use broadband and would LOVE to host our own web sites, etc...but we get certified letters from Charter telling us to turn of Apache in 5 days or be disconnected..grrrrr.
The issue (at least from the perspective of an authentic Christian) has nothing to do with science. It has to do with my belief that the Bible is the infallible word of God. God declares in the Bible that life begins at conception...end of discussion. If I believe the Bible the I have to believe that life begins at conception. If I believe that then destroying embryos is murder, plain and simple. The liberal media always tries to make this an issue of science or saving humanity or whatever when it really has nothing to do with that, at least not from the Christian perspective. I believe that embryos are lives, and I'm not going to advocating taking those lives.
That of course is my opinion, but it ain't gonna happen I fear.
Your own words make my point. People are lazy and afraid of computers, so they want to enter a password one time and forget about it. In the computer support world it's hard to be idealistic. Ideally, everyone would pick great passwords (a unique one for each unique service) and never complain once about having to remember so many complicated passwords. In the real world things don't work that way. We're going to end up with SSO, and I'd much rather have an open source solution than a Microsoft one.
The point is that there is GOING TO BE single sign-on. The market demands it. Most people get frustrated with having to remember more than one password, and with having to log in more than once. It confuses them. I would much rather have an open source solution than a proprietary one (especially controlled by M$).
The problem with this assertion is that, if you believe what the Bible says...when "the hand of God" comes down it will be too late for all of you atheists to convert. That's the danger, if I'm right and there's no God..oh well. I spent my life living according to what I believed and in the end nothing happened...who cares? If I'm right, you lived your life however you wanted to now and spend eternity in torment. Hmmmm...sounds like a no-brainer to me.
This is an interesting argument. Because, as I'm reading your earlier posts that all speech should be protected I'm thinking "wow, this guy wants anarchy." You're contradicting yourself to the extreme. The Constitution should be protected at all costs but we should have complete freedom to say whatever we want? Of course!!! Now I get it!!! You're one more liberal regurgitating what they've been spoon-fed in our institutes of "higher education."
The reality is that freedom, true freedom, comes from the submission to law, and that the laws are NOT in place to guarantee you the right to do whatever you want. We do not live in a "free" society in the sense that we can do/say whatever we want. We live in a society governed by MORALS (liberals hate that word). Our society's morals dictate our laws. Like it or not, this country at least tries to pretend to be a Christian country, and our laws used to reflect that. Granted, we've strayed from that quite a bit (thanks to the liberal agenda), but we have to recognize that the only way to have true freedom is to submit to the law.
Think about it, you could take a lot of the same argument(s) being applied to this and apply them to whatever you want to be able to justify your actions. People need to wake up and realize what they're doing to themselves and our country by allowing these idiotic, leftist, satanic ideals into our law.
Naaah...while i agree about star wars, the cornerstone of my childhood was Intellivision:)

Politicizing Science

I think the assumption that you're basing your opinion on is basically false...that this is the first administration to do this. You, like everyone else, don't want science politicized unless it's with your politics. Where were you when Clinton was hiding information from everyone? He flat-out lied to the American people...but THAT was ok because we should stay out of his personal life...right? Ridiculous. This article is typical liberal spin...make it sound like us nasty conservatives don't care about people, all we care about is money. It's stupid, and the American people should realize that it's stupid, that politics are politics and everybody plays them, and that the only good opinion is a conservative opinion.:)
Well, considering that I use Redhat Linux almost exclusively, it's not hard to discern what my opinion might be. The reality is, this claim is so far offbase that it's ridiculous. Most of the people making this claim are elitist goons who probably don't use Linux anyway, they just read on some newsgroup that it makes you sound 1337 to bash Redhat and so that's what they do. The only thing that makes Redhat any different from any other distribution is market share. People claiming that Redhat is the Microsoft of the Linux world are arguing against capitalism. These people would bash any company that was successful. Redhat remains open source, and contributes a great deal to open source software and to the community at large. This is VASTLY different from the proprietary software development model employed by Microsoft. I get really sick of elitist Linux users trying to put down everything successful, user-friendly, or even remotely easy to use. It's these people that will prevent Linux from every truly becoming successful on the desktop. Too many people hear these goons claiming how hard Linux is to use, and how you have to be a genius to even install Linux. They do this simply to puff themselves up and try to gain some semblence of self-esteem. Sorry guys, Linux really isn't that hard to install OR use. You don't have to be a hard-core computer geek use Linux for all of your normal computing tasks. This is a figment of your wannabe-1337, s'kiddie imagination.
Get real...firewalls are not the "end all" solution to every security problem. You're also mixing passive and active defense. Firewalls are designed to BLOCK attacks at the gateway. Snort (and all network-based IDS') are designed detect attacks that have gotten through your firewall...and they do get through, I assure you.
They do...at least Crushlink does. I got one and immediately dumped email address of co-workers who I knew were probably trying to repay me for a prank I had played. Sure enough...it appears we were meant for each other!
Not to be devil's advocate here, but people need to get a life. I hate spam as much as the next guy, but STALKING these guys? Threatening them? Spam sucks, but so does being an idiot. What if I stalked all the people who posted annoying crap on/. or what if we started stalking everyone who asked a stupid question on IRC? I find stupid people just as irritating (if not more) than spam, so why shouldn't I be able to threaten, stalk, and harrass them? Flaming people online is one thing, but stalking them is totally different. And stalking their family members is despicable. If I was Tom Cowles, and you stalked my wife, you would be dead...no questions asked. And you would deserve it.
It seems to me that the goal of the author is to be as ridiculously contrary as possible...to everyone. However, the most offensive peace is his awful attempts to parallel Jesus Christ with the open source community. To imply that Jesus chased the moneylenders out of the temple is just sheer ignorance of the Bible...and offensive.
However, initial versions of Mandrake made very little more than cosmetic changes to Redhat. The only differences were things like the logo and some other minor things.
Where's the data that they don't. Do you really think that corporations would be taking the time (and money) to piss off so many people if there wasn't SOME ROI? I'm not for pop-ups, I'm simply stating the fact that they're not going anywhere. As long as there is a business case for them, we're stuck with them. If there were no business case then they would have disappeared long ago.
Regardless of how I personally feel about pop-ups...I think we're stuck with them. Whether anyone likes it or not, people DO click on them, and they DO result in money being spent. It's the same concept as spam...yes, people hate it and most people ignore it. However, if just one person out of 1,000,000 spends money there's a ROI. When you look at the cost of implementing a pop-up versus the profit of just one transaction....there's a business case.
Regardless of how annoyed people get with pop-ups, I think that we all need to note that while AOL did cut the amount of pop-ups in half...they are still using pop-ups. Pop-ups, whether we like it or not, are an effective advertising medium that are here to stay.
There are laws in place about stealing phone service...just enforce them. Don't create new, more specific ones. If we continue to let the government infringe upon our rights...it's never going to end.
I just forwarded this on to my boss and my Controller. The Linux community needs more public endorsement like this. It's hard to make a business case for Linux when all that your Controller has ever heard about it is that it's a toy for hackers.
I'm not denying that we can make reasonable assumptions, but to assume they're correct is inappropriate. We have NO IDEA what they can do. None. Given that information, they could have found a way to use plasma in processors that makes them 500 times faster than a quad-Xeon box...taking long key lengths totally out of the picture. I realize that it's far-fetched...but so was walking on the moon...and e-mail for that matter.
Yeah, you're right...it's much better now that we have unbelievably high divorce rates, kids killing each other, children having sex (and babies), college students that can't read, presidents that think it's ok to lie to the american people, and thousands of people going to hell because they refuse to hear the truth. My company still uses Office 97, and when that ceases to meet our needs we'll start using Star Office.

So when does the first service pack come out?
