I can't help but find the cost/megahertz and cost/fps charts a little hilarious:P.
More importantly, though, is the fact that the games score nearly exactly the same score, no matter what the resolution! In PC land, this points to an under-fed video card, and a bottleneck in either (a) the CPU or (b) whatever bus the video card is attached to. These things are running 1.2 GHz chips, so I think I can assume that the bottle neck is not in the CPU. Might one surmise from this that Apple has a fairly slow AGP implementation? Or is it that the Radeon 8500 isn't playing nice with the AGP on the G4?
Hopefully they have a system where if you try to recycle anything PPC class or newer, they send some burly men to your office door to give you a good going over.
IPC144 Notes by Evan Weaver... too bad it's only a Seneca textbook and hard to find. Don't let the name fool you, it's a solid introduction to C, and it is very simple to understand! In other words, it doesn't make you feel like an idiot while you're reading it.
The first episode is kinda cool, although I could do without that (spoiler)graphic murder scene(/spoiler). Interesting how humanity always seems to create robots and then provoke them to destroy them:P. Those damned dirty robots!
I'm pretty sure that Visual.NET isn't beta software anymore, and neither is GCC 3.x... this is somewhat out of date. However, somebody who wants a Slashdotting could just download the aforementioned tools and write their own up to date comparison... (note that I don't want a./ing)
All things considered, though, I'm fairly sure GCC hasn't gotten quite *that fast* in the elapsed time since the article was written:p.
I agree. I took no offense at the post, I don't believe it was intended that way.
Although I did try hard for a while to make up an abbreviation for SDPIF:P.
Actually, I've never owned a CD-ROM that *didn't* output SDPIF (sp?). The Creative 12x DVD and AOpen 20x10x40 both have it on my computer, the dead CDROM in my tiny server has it... no, wait, I have a crazy old Panasonic drive that doesn't have it, but it doesn't support IDE either. It's one of dem crazy weird buses.
ANYWAY, my point is that most CDROMs have a two pin "digital output" on the far left side, and that is a SDPIF output. With a little creative wiring, you should be able to hook it into a stereo. And I believe most IDE CDROMs work with only power. Of course, I'm talking internal drives here but you should be able to hammer something together.
Still, though... I imagine MacWorlds are an important community event. Apple may not have anything to show, but if their pulling out causes such a huge chain reaction, maybe they could/should just rehash some previous presentations/booths/etc? A big thing that Apple has going for them is their dedicated user base, and something like this might alienate them... a bit.
Maybe I don't completely understand the realm of SCSI, but it seems optical SCSI drives have been left behind... now the dream system that everybody has on paper can be all SCSI!
I suspect Amazon is trying to *avoid* a patent battle with this one, rather than trying to start one. Maybe eBay does have prior art, but I highly doubt they're going to bother each other.
Obviously this is a (humorous?) attempt to change this, but as I am a fresh highschool graduate going into college, is this the kinda treatment I can look forward to(Being mostly ignored)?
Holy shit, folks! How long ago did they announce this project? Something this large takes a lot of planning and organization.... *if* they have any code right now, it would almost certainly not be damned enough to run! How's about we wait a little longer 'fore we start complaining about them?
I live in Toronto, Ontario, and I just purchased a laptop for $80 CDN, for which I received a Toshiba Satellite Pro 410CDT. This is a Pentium 90, with 16 MB of RAM, a 2 GB hard drive, and a 800x600 TFT display. It also came with a PCMCIA 28.8 modem (now flashed to 36.6), an internal CD-ROM, and an external floppy. The battery even works; it'll run for three hours off it! I am pretty damn pleased with it, especially considering how well-documented Toshiba's old laptops are...there are some problems, like I need to replace a fan in it, and the retention mechanism for the CD-ROM seems to be really bent up (the drive still fits in there snugly, but I can't lock it in place), but hey, it works. Now I can do homework wherever the hell I want! (And play Quake after)
I wonder when, if ever, the movie would hit Canada. I have a passing interest in anime, and while I'm far too lazy to go and find a place that I could rent/buy the stuff, I love watching it on TV. But having it in the theatre would be just damn cool.

Any explanations?
IEEE hasn't even ratified 802.11g yet!
Sorry, that's bullshit. There is no way in hell any G3 is under $100.

I wish far more companies would respond like this, instead of instantly suing each other until one of them dies a bitter death.

Wow! That totally rocks!
...because then they'd stop advertising to me, ever again! I only have forty nine cents in my bank account.

Is it just me, or does the Belkin have FireWire ports too? Sure looks like it in the photos.

Then if it's proved accurate, we can make another time zone for space or something!
awesome! I have the power to get negative points any time I want! I must only use this...for evil!
This is not the first post!!! ha!! GIVE me MOD POINTS right NOW!

...what in the hell is it for? That is a *hell* of a lot of solar panel...it can't be just for powering the spartan display I see in those pictures.
And I'm absolutely positive this thing wasn't stolen.
