  1. My opinion on this BS... on Laptops In Education · · Score: 1

It looks like the Maine govenor is really blowing it big, if he goes to blow the surplus on computers first, before fixing their own education system itself....

But, if implemented correctly, this could work.

But, the state/city/WTF-ever, can't pay for all of it.

How do we know that us students are gonna take care of these things...

I'd say, for a fee of $100, to get a nice, really rugged, laptop for students to do their work, provided by the education board, WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS!!!

Because, the only thing I hate, is not having the sysop/root password to my machine I blew $100 for, and not being able to put more productive apps on the machine.

I'm the student sysop for my school, Cleveland High School, and we have a program that loans out restored computers to other students, with everything it needs. (486's and up, of course. Nothing goes out that I can't install Linux on, dammit! :)

But, again, if implemented right, it could have some great benefits. It just wouldn't work for Math class tho :)

The only societable problem I see is the 'have/have-nots' to this. (Altho, if people around my part of the city can go and blow $500-fucking-bux on shoes, they sure as hell can get a $100 laptop, no?)

The systems in my mind, are not the highest end, a P-233 with 2GB HDD and 32MB RAM, 14.1 TFT, FDD and CD, and its all good to go. (I've seen this kind of dream system sold for $600-$900 around here)

Whee. Maybe its time for me to shut up,

  3. Wow-ee... on Interview: Grill John Vranesevich of AntiOnline · · Score: 1

Purrty low, but then again, this is to GRILL JP, so nothing was really even serious in this. One big orgasmic flamefest. I can add my own in, such as that JP (I hate his last name... do you notice?) sucks great whale dick, but we aren't here to do that, now are we?

Seriously, JP has proved himself, to the "inner circle(s)", as well as most of the outer ones, as the biggest fake SecAdmin/SysOp/"hacker" the world has know in the past five years. Anyone who spends even two months (being mature and) studying hacking would quickly figure out that JP really shouldn't exist in the world of Hacking, and the broad range of topics it covers. He has done masses amounts of shit, including but not limited to taking down Packet Storm, in a messy, go-straight-to-head-honcho-and-make-a-fucked-up-st ory way.

If that isn't all, "mainstream" media (AKA MTv!!!) puts him on the same phreakin' screen with Shamrock from Parse.

Quick thought: So is JP+AntiOnline "mainstream" media? jumps into shit without thouroughly studying it?

For the short term, which works hand in hand in the long term, you all should blow off your steam on this fake. But we shaln't do this for long, as soon as we're done, Shun AntiOnline, and bring the mainstream media's attention to EXACTLY what this FAKE has done, and quote him as much as possible, and expect the second wave from the media, and then the dust settles, and JP is booed, hissed, and beat up off the stage, and his name goes down in the history books as a fake.

Uhm, at least in theory that all should work...

To speak of JPs knowledge from my perspective, he seems to have not a whole lot more than I do, which albeit would be only easy to research (what I don't know). routine shit like keeping up on patches, not running Winblows (Sorry, I have to, alright?), not letting the r* (rwho, rexec, etc) commands run, perhaps not even having his webserver close to his LAN, not having a static IP address also helps a bit.

And in some cases I see myself far more ahead (even in my young age of 14 1/2) in maturity to new issues (like Analyzer, the indian hacker) than JP (was)is.

Questions, on the other hand, I have none of for JP, as I wouldn't lay a finger of trust to his information, even if he said he took a shit 15 mins ago, I wouldn't trust it. (Bad example, I know, so sue me! Uhm, err, I take that back) I don't even want to ask how he got his lameass to this point.

    So, that taken care of,

  4. Linux/QNX/BeOS/Amiga... on Amiga OS Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes · · Score: 1

Its actually really stupid that they go with _one_ port of an OS for Amiga. If a bunch of people wanted to , they'd go and port Linux to work with Amiga now.

QNX is rather legacy, at least in their support, but its got two things, one good, one bad: 1) spiffy screenshots that make me quiver, and 2) _huge_ pricing... Bad Juujuu.

Be... Damn, I can't remember if Be is free... who knows. Anyway, same way, if a buncha people felt particularly good that day, and decided to port BeOS to Amiga, they'd do it.

Again, going with _one_ OS isn't the answer. If whatshisface is thinking straight, hed realize this, and perhaps get his elbows/hands dirty and play with some code too.

  5. Re:Moore's Law on 1GHz Alphas · · Score: 1

Heh. Alpha has always been a "threat" to Intel, and Intel will never carve the right hole into Alpha until they can make the chips right.

And as far as I know, Intel does not have any 1G chips yet, but they're getting there as halfassed as possible.

AMD is also the same way. 'nuff said.

So, in conclusion, Intel and AMD should focus in more on the consumer market, as that is the only place they're good at.
