If you love freedom of speech and association, here is your chance to do something concrete about it. Make out a physical check in the amount of $1 or $5 or whatever you want. Mail the check to OWS (http://occupywallst.org/donate/) and copies to the FBI and the DHS.
If the community spent half the energy we spend flaming each other with the same argument over and over and over calling their Congressmen to yell at them, faxing their Congressmen copies of large checks written to their opponent in the upcoming election, etc., then things might start to change.
Have you seen Chinese research? Have you ever tried to reproduce some of their results? I have, and I would guess that even though spending might be equal, the quality will not catch up for a long time after that.
Microsoft Lawyer: Your Honor, their patent on virtual intercourse clearly infringes on our patent from 2012.
Opponent Lawyer: But your patent was on hugs, not sex.
Microsoft Lawyer: Yeah, 'hugs'. (Winks at judge.) I think everyone knew what we were claiming.
Judge: I find for Microsoft.
Spence: We got shooters here and here. I tell you an old trick.
Sam: Hey...[rubs the board]
Spence: What's your problem?
Sam: Draw again. Draw it again. You're the ace field man. Draw it again. It's a simple diagram. Just draw it again. Draw what you saw. Draw it again! Draw it again!
Sam: [Spence remains silent. Sam takes the marker and draws on the board] Two shooters. Car comes through here. Shooters across each other. Kill each other dead. Oh my, where'd you learn that?
"In other words, we can no longer have nice things from what is still, in theory, our government, because we have placed what is still, in theory, our government into the hands of vandals and madmen, so the solution is to hand everything over to a private sector that repeatedly has shown that, in the pursuit of an extra nickel in profits, it would sell your grandmother to the Somali pirates and drill an oil-well in Lincoln's nose on Mount Rushmore."
They have found it much more promising to give contributions to certain members of Congress to burden the USPS with debt so they sink and clear the way for UPS and Fedex to take over.
I seem to remember something about the supreme court only hearing about 10% (??) of the cases brought to them. Is there anything about this case that makes it particularly (un)likely to be heard?
The Court picks which cases it will hear. This is like you choosing among things on the list your wife gives you to do. You are going to put off the hard ones and combine the similar ones. You will concentrate on the interesting ones or the ones you think might make you look like a hero if you do them.
As much as this topic excites us, the Court may have a larger boner over some obscure water rights lawsuit from Montana.
"While 20,000 apps in an online store may seem paltry compared to the more than 700,000 apps in Apple's store and more than 600,000 apps in Google Play, for an upstart in the app trade like Microsoft, the milestone is significant.
Microsoft broke the 20,000 mark on Tuesday, according to Directions on Microsoft Windows app store watcher Wes Miller. Nearly 18,000, or 87 percent, of those apps are free, according to Miller."
"Following the successful launch of the iPhone 5, sales of iOS devices have overtaken Android in the U.S., according to Kantar Worldpanel. The research firm found that in the past 12 weeks, sales of Apple (AAPL) smartphones accounted for 48.1% of the market compared to Android’s 46.7% share."
Isn't it about 20 years too late to gain an edge on other pro franchises by following Moneyball? It's not like it is a secret weapon anymore.
It's pretty clear to me that nothing will ever again be allowed to enter the public domain.
But it really takes an imbecile to believe that ows could spring into existence fully formed, complete with a slick web site....
Really? What site did you think you were posting to? Yes, making a slick web site. That must take a team of computer nerds and years of labor.
Nah. This is backwards.
I don't totally agree with OWS. But the FBI targeting political assemblies of any stripe is unacceptable.

I totally agree. Anonymity and false identities - two sides of the same sick coin - will lead to the fall of liberty. -- Polly Baker
I just learned you can gain access to the Library of Congress without being a Congressman.

Just a nit, but clarinet is more like chording input -- multiple fingers change position at once.
How about the piano? Seems like the right hand part anyway is lots of individual notes.
OP should also look into finger-cooling technology.
I got the wrong thread. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Find someone who plays the clarinet and ask them how they mastered Flight of the Bumblebee?
Spence: We got shooters here and here. I tell you an old trick.

He...could...go...all...the...w- BOOM! FUMBLE!!
At least we weren't taught to form squares against cavalry charges.
What the fuck are you supposed to do against a cavalry charge then? Form lines?
The event only killed people below ground.

Wow, splitting hairs over synonyms that are used interchangeably in every day speech! Keep it up and one day you'll be a scientist at MIT too!
I was. And we knew the difference.

Why isn't UPS and Fedex suing the Post Office?
They have found it much more promising to give contributions to certain members of Congress to burden the USPS with debt so they sink and clear the way for UPS and Fedex to take over.

Are these the same guys who predicted 10 and 20 years ago that we would all be working for Japanese companies by now?
No, it's 20%. Windows Store takes only 20% of sales above $25K.
But the two stores are not equivalent, thus the "if they (Microsoft) were in their (Apple) position".

Can you imagine if a similar system was in place on desktops? the iOS platform is a MONOPOLY.
