computers will play a variety of openings from thier opening book. Most opening books are pretty large, and lead to open ended positions. The games would rarely be duplicates.
:)...you could put a whole bunch of these in the space of like 1 normal PC, maybe make a small rack of them. it would be sorta like the Green Destiny at Los Alamos. this might be useful for researchers who may want fast, instant access to a powerful computing system when traveling. i bet it's pretty energy efficient too.
well, don't compare this to a laptop, rather compare it to a palm or similar PDA. sure, they could work on a laptop-sized computer with tons of high end stuff, but they want to make a handheld unit that will be much more useful than previous pdas.
there was a program that went around for palmOS a while ago that claimed to be able to use a hidden feature in the dragonball processor in some earlier model palms. it was supposedly able to act as a cell phone, and came with a dialer to connect to an ISP. when you tried to call, it would make the sounds like a phone, but would always say it's busy or something. lol
the script kiddies are growing up and looking for more of a challenge? they know there are a ton of holes in Windows based systems. maybe getting into a linux system makes them feel more l33t.
just a thought.
Passwords that need to be reset after a certain time certainly have thier uses... in a busy office for example, but for the average home user, this will cause confusion, and forgotten passwords. or, to remember what this week's password is, people will end up writing on a post-it and sticking it to the monitor. that negates any security benefits it might have had.
I think they've totally had the opposite effect they wanted to... instead of keeping this a low profile site, now everyone knows about it, and can visit it through mirrors, etc. those articles will not go away, and now they are in the limelight.
this seems a little expensive of a hoax just to fool the slashdot community. i mean, anyone can attach a potato to a motherboard, but it takes more resources to build tracks around your yard.
yes, geocities sucks, but the last i heard they won't cut you off for bandwidth (although I could easily be wrong about that). and face it, the little java ads in the corner are less annoying than Pop-up x10 ads or the like. it would at least give people somewhere to go, without anyone having to fork over any dough.

It's not boring when the human wins once and ties 3 times out of 6 races with a car.
[Kasparov took game 1 and drew games 3, 4 and 5 during the 1997 rematch with Deep Blue]

i'm sure the percentage of people that haven't heard him is higher than that, but that doesn't make his contributions any less important.

some people's browsers don't properly handle .log files, and they don't feel like downloading the file... having the text right here helps.

now which is it running, bovine or seti@home?
well at least it hasn't crashed back into a planet because of someone throwing in english measurements with metric. kudos amateurs!!
at Penn State we get the whole ms office 2000 or xp suite for free. all students can. free OS's too: win2k, xp, even OSX.
do they have a product, or sell anything?? it seems their entire business model is based on lawsuits... this is just so shitty

agreed... anyone who questions the graphical abilities of the PS2 should see Final Fantasy X. This is definitly not a cartoony looking game.
news.com has been using com.com for a while now. this is nothing, new, it's all good.
Does this mean that instead of making out during a movie, you can cyber?? haha

but does it run SETI??
now that i've played around with it, it only skips when using Windows media player. the DIVX player runs it perfectly. :)
yeah, the divx audio got out of sync for me too
will these adds just be wider or are we talking stupid airplanes flying across the page (like yahoo had a while back)?
