    For one, who cares if its selfless. It's giving.It helps no matter what his intentions.
    Secondly, when people give almost a billion dollars in one shot it's newsworthy.
    This sight is full of drones. Slashdot editors so easily get the reaction they desire with a few little words attached to the story.

    Ok, the linux community are the users correct? If its the contributors only we are talking about they are hardly relevant as most of you people do NOT contribute to linux.     How is the parent a troll? DOn't liek to hear the truth? These comments are really unbeleivable. Can you name another person who has donated $27 Billion to charity? THis is jsut one single donation yet everyone is talking about 1.5%. Who cares if it's 1000th of a percent, it will have way more impact than if I or any of you donated 100% of our salaries for the next 20 years. This is about the greater good served not the rightousness of Bill Gates. comparing linux to $750 million dollar donation to charity is laughable.

    That doesn't make any sense. There would be no need to conceive only to abort. There are plenty enough abortions occurring to supply plenty of stem cells for research. It's a bogus argument that's used to shield a religious motive.

    What exactly is the relevance of you being an engineer? Does that somehow qualify to speak on the mechanics of evolution? Your shortcomings in understanding biological evolution are just that. Sorry to be hard on you, but you hear this kind of thing so often. Being an expert in one area does not mean you have the slightest clue in another.

    You make a good point and in a perfect world you are probably correct. THe problem lies in who is defining the framework for what is indecent and what is clean. For example, to me nudity is not an issue of morality. Somehow American culture has decided that a nude body in any context is indecent or at the very least the domain of adulthood. On US television they even blur out the breasts on most if not all educational medical shows. Does that not strike you as odd? The direction this is going is not a good one I predict.

    Good effort, but I think your letter misses a very important point. I think they agree with your assessment of people as parents. Thats why they need to protect those very children. If there are so many bad parents, as you elude to, who is protecting those children from the the content of these shows. They know best is the mantra. They aren't idiots. The Christian right has a lot of influence because they are very deliberate and very calculating.
