    Short of requiring some sort of test (a la amateur radio) before a person is allowed to buy

    In the USA you can buy Amateur radio equipment without a license. you can build it without a licence.
    You can transmit without a license but that would be Illegal.

    Other nations have different laws though. Some even outlaw the consumer grade handheld walkie talkies that we take with us on our cruises.

    I have it working under DosBox .63 and it's still the same buggy program but i cant quit playing it.

    I've often thought about that.
    I worked in spfld for 4 years on contract with the state. that town sucks.
    It's depressing to drive through and hard on the eyes.
    I wouldn't prefer chicago either.

    Lets move it back to Vandalia or Kaskaskia.

    I remember those days. But I didn't think about it that way then.
    I worked on my car and other's then to save money. I just knew calling someone else was "too expensive unless desperate" and I had time to fix it because I had no choice.

    Now that hour in whatever shop for whatever service = only 1 to 2 hours of work and i've become lazy.
    I call the plumber, handyman, or mechanic when I need something done because i don't have the time to do it.

    Black skinned people do indeed exist.
    There was this fellow named Sam that lived down the street when i was growing up.
    He was Black. In fact he was so dark that in the summer he looked like he had blue skin when he tanned a bit.
    Now i'm a nice mocha color and get Golden Brown when i tan. But Sam was a Blacker than Black man.
    And i've met several gentlemen from Kenya, Mali and other African nations that have skin coloring that would meet the description of black.

    The point is this:
    People dream and desire to do things.
    Projects like this fill some with wonder, others with hope.
    It's the human experience.

    Some little girl may hear of this and get interested in science.
    Some little boy could decide to become a pilot.
    Some person with power/money might decide to fund more research projects.
    Some whiney bitch on a message board may say WTF?

    If all we needed out of life was immediate value, we would still be hunter/gatherers

    I have Pocket Tunes Deluxe on my Treo 650 so i can listen to streaming internet radio.
    It goes through the full charge in about 3 hours.

    the battery will last me 2 days with normal daily no web browsing and only checking email every 15min

    so yah, it will eat up the battery.

    but data of this type is updated frequently.
    Account #'s change.
    new data is added
    outdated info is removed.

    so a CD-R isn't really that bad for this purpose.
    My stuff is on one. every 3-6 mos i update it and break the old one.

    WOuldn't the ziploc's melt in case of a fire?

    My home safe is fire rated for 1hr at 1700F

    internal temps can get to 120 ~ 250.

    Unless of course you have a media safe designed to keep plastic media from melting.

    A bios option to diable USB would be nice. especially in an enviroment that doesn't need USB for anything.
    A lot of systems do not have the option.
