A lot of sites are actually hosted by more than one company. Some big consulting companies sell solutions that are hosted in their hosting environment but maintained by another for company. I am currently on a project in which our company was outsourced to not only deliver the software but to maintain the servers. The big consulting company that has a multimillion dollar monitoring system always let us down. We ended up writing several scripts to monitor our processes and servers( as we could not install any other software for security reasons ) Obviously, We would rather have the montoring software that we use on our internally hosted sites. However, Our scripts do a superb job and haven't let us down. I don't think it is hard to achieve 5 9's if your site is set up properly. All of our down-time on the different environments that we host were actually due to the Large Consuting company doing things like shutting down firewall ports, A security team kicking the wire to a DataBase, turning off the power to the hosting facility ( Yes they have UPS. However, it is configured wrong. So when they have a scheduled power down.... The UPS's do not work. ) Unfortunately , I can't say that this is unique in the Industry. As another Major Hardware/Consulting/software company that we are partnered with are is also just as bad.
Diesel engines do have higher particulate emissions. However, they are large particles. Large particles fall to the ground quicker and can not reach the lungs as easily. Also, Diesel gets much better milage. There fore you are burning less diesel than gas for the same mileage. Gas engines with there invisible gas particles are much worse for the environment and our lungs since there pollutants stay suspended. This has long been a myth with diesel since people see soot and a louder engine they think that It's worse for the environment than gas engines.
I drove a Golf Turbo Diesel from London to Edinburgh and back. I loved the engine on it. The golf got superb gas mileage. It also had great acceleration. They aren't joking when the name "turbo" diesel. I plan on buying a turbo diesel when I get back to the States. You can get the Golf, Jetta, and Beetle with a turbo diesel. I would highly recomend a tried and true diesel engine that gets great pickup over a new and untested hybrid or alternative fuel engine. Also, you should consider the body. A diesel engine can cary a conventional body frame. The hybrind and Alternate fuel engines use all sort of weight saving measures in the body to increase efficiency. In the long run a sturdy body will hold up longer. If you aren't planning on keeping the car for very long then why even get a fuel efficent car? After all you only see the savings in TCO after a few years.
No, I am sure that some things will always be known as trash:) I doubt that the rock will be learned about in history classes......unless he runs for president!! However, we often look at the past with rose colored glasses. The fact is history is full of trashy entertainment we just forget about the trully trashy stuff. Keep in mind that classical music was the rock music of the day. We have the classical masters that we learn about today. However, there were scores of other composers that were mediocore. Those that were not talented or controversial have been forgotten in history.
Let's not forget. Most works that we regard as classic today were not always looked favorably upon at the time. Machiavelli was considered scandalous and crude. Certainly not appropriate to mention his name in public. Now his work is read in high schools. Or perhaps Marquis de Sad. He was imprissoned for his writeings and at the time and seen as a writer of filth. Now his works are regarded as classics. I am sure that many of Shakespeare's works were considered filth at the time.
We have had a lot of problems wiht our solaris 8 boxes....any one else seen problems from solaris 8 and 7. We are particularly having problems with our qfe nics.
We have had some interesting bugs with solaris 8 that we never had with 7. In fact we probably will be staying away from solaris 8 on our next project. Any one else having troubles with qfe nics???? I mean if you snoop it off the network and it says one thing and then the interace says another............that can't be a good thing.
I am working on a project in the UK regarding taxes. The british governtment is using a portal to conect to our application. In the future the portal will connect users to other apps from other businesses. This is being accomplished without the use of MS passport. All the user needs is a login and password that is provided from the government.
I don't think they will notice. My company recently did a project with the state of california. There was an issue with the way there databases are setup and the application we were developing. One of our software developers who happened to be an ex Oracle employ asked one of the DBA's about there schema's and the issue at hand. The response from the California DBA "Can't we just delete the Primary Keys" . Any body else find that statement scarry??

Hate to break it to you. However, I am watching the "Tele" right now and most of the shows on are from the US. I agree with you on the news thing. However, you have to look at thinks realistically. 1 State is bigger than most countries in Europe and around the world. There fore the news in the states gets kind of saturated. As far as communism. Well, if you think about it. There has to be many more cities that have been lost in a similar way. After all water is extremly vital for transportation and comerce. It is only natural that people would build cities in areas that are close to water and easily floodable. I can't think of any major city that was founded before the auto-mobile that is not near a major source of water. We have even had "lost cities" in modern times. There was a storm in the early part of the 20th century that submerged a vacation island off the coast of NYC. Every one forgot about it untill a few years ago when some researchers found pottery washing up on the shorlines.
There is already plenty of evidence of a localized flood in that area. It is in the fozillized sea life,remains of huts that were covered and sonar readings showing river beds that extend hundreds of miles into the black sea. The fact is. The black sea was a lot smaller a few thousand years ago. Also the great flood pre-dates noah. However, it's timeline co-incided nicely with a babylonian tale of a great flood.

They were caused by the melting glaciers and a slight rise in sea level that over flowed a portal that protected the area that was around the black sea which was under sea level. Also, the biblical flood is actually strangely similar to the story of Giglemesh (SP?). This story was told in Babylonian courts and is thought to have been borrowed by early Jewish people that were seeking refuge in the Babylonian court. There has actually been a lot of scientific research done in this area proofing a large localized flood. Such as remains of aquatic life that was fresh water being replaced by salt water organisms very quickly. Do a google search on Black sea flood or something for more info.
