Here's something that has worked for me in the past: Have Marketing assign a level to each feature/requirement:
Level 1 - Must be in the next release or nobody will buy the product.
Level 2 - Nice to have in the next release, but can be moved to the release after this one if constraints (e.g. people, time, money, etc) prohibit its inclusion.
Level 3 - Nice to have, but can be moved to a subsequent release if constraints (e.g. people, time, money, etc) prohibit its inclusion.
Now you can focus on what's important but still design the thing so that all the requirements can be implemented in the proper order.

From the LDS Book of Moses, Chapter 1, verse 33:
33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.
34 And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many.
35 But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.
So maybe it won't be too much of a shock to some...
I agree; I think the brain is not a calculator, but a pattern recognizer.
Give it enough patterns and the answer pops out. Multiplication tables are one pattern, and fraction tables (1/2 = 0.5, 1/3 is approx..33, 1/4=0.25... 1/9 is approx 0.11, 1/10=0.1) are another, logs, square roots, trig, etc.
Memorize the first dozen or so entries of each table that correspond to whole numbers (or whatever logical pattern you can discern) and pretty soon your brain will use the patterns to organize the answer for you.
From the Heinlein book 'Have Space Suit, Will Travel':
Mother - Mercury Very - Venus Thoughtfully - Terra (Earth) Made - Mars A - Asteroids Jelly - Jupiter Sandwich - Saturn Under - Uranus No - Neptune Protest - Pluto
I forgot the dollar amounts used in the book (Terra was $1.00 - in AUs). Now we need to dream up an 'S' word to append to it, maybe something like: Silly - Sedna (or whatever)
I've had a Roku box since the beginning of November. It's hooked to a 42" Panasonic Plasma (852x480) running at 1080i. The other end of the Roku is hooked to a wireless 802.11g game adapter. Any shared files/directories are automatically mounted and can be browsed with the UI.
The Roku can be programmed via shell scripts or you can use the included remote for selecting music and/or pictures.
The UI is still a little rough, but they are working on it (two beta releases since initial release), and it keeps getting better.
I'm looking forward to the release of the SDK and hacking a screensaver, as the screensaver selection is pretty limited- bouncing Roku logo, string art, or bouncing clock.
I still haven't been able to play any mpeg files, but the still picture slideshow looks great. Roku Support says more picture/movie formats are coming 'soon'.
All in all, it's a good off-the-shelf solution for playing music that is easy for the family to use. I expect it will get better with each release...
He came to me and said,
It's gotta be narrow enough for a bicycle, but wide enough for a hummvee,
It's gotta be recyclable and not harm a tree,
It's gotta be password protected, Internet enabled, smaller than a table, and reuse is expected!
UML and Visio for the design, we gotta have a prototype by next week, don't whine!
Nobody can get hurt using this bridge, no time for testing, just do a smidge!
We gotta release it soon, or the customer will swoon!
Thank goodness that's done, now lets build another one!
The next customer's needs are unique, let's use the same code and build it next week!
So my Boss wanted me to build a bridge...

I worked at a place that had recently gotten a new CEO. All of a sudden, everyone started getting those Daytimer notebooks. When asked why I didn't have one yet, I replied that I didn't like being so busy; it interfered with my daydreaming. People looked at me funny. Then I got a Newton (yes, it was a long time ago) and started to log my work time. I got depressed after finding out that I was working 13 months for every 12 month period. I quit using the Newton and felt much happier, until I got laid off during the Asian Flu thing in '98. Then I went back to being a contractor and was happy until the dotcom crash. Now I've had 18 months of slack time. Too much of a good thing is as bad as too little.

How about a Plug-in for Outlook that combines Grammatik with a spellchecker?
Then fix Outlook so it won't send until you get a passing grade from both...
I'm not sure that I agree with someone taking daily such an amount of pills. What do you think?
I think he has the world's most expensive urine.

Or is it Boba Binks?
I'm tired.
So there.

So, how far could you kick a football with this rig?
Actually, I heard IBM invented this, and their competitors (The Seven Sisters?) invented the term to describe it (FUD).
