    I'm not drinking alcohol at all this year (just as an experiment - I'm not a recovering alcoholic or anything like that). I don't think that this has made any difference to my socialising.

    Check the qualifiers. That behavior was intended, but for other markets. Samsung does have plans to introduce it to the Australian market, but in the long term.

    That's exactly it. There's no way for them to claim it's unintentional, as it takes intentional code to create this behavior. I don't know what on earth these people are thinking, but I won't be buying any "smart" TV that decides to share my conversations and injects ads where they don't belong. Same thing goes for Keurig and their DRM'd coffe makers or any other "smart" applicances. It seems that every "smart" appliance has a lot of foolish thinking behind it.

    You can say bad examples are just for teaching materials, but if all students are ever exposed to are bad examples, it's going to be a lot harder for them become good programmers.

    Sometimes you start out with a trivial example so students can grasp the concept more quickly, then you increase complexity.

    Not sure why this is news.

    It's news because it involves abuse of technology. Swatting is pretty heinous, especially since it can endanger an innocent person and is a gross misuse of police resources. All I can say is I'm glad they caught him, and if he's guilty he deserves to be locked up for a long time.

    Good thing they finally got one of these. Now all they have to do is train their swabs how to control the thing after they get the whole ship wired up. Why is it this makes me think of the robot in this Bugs Bunny cartoon (start at the 5:30 mark).

    They plan to put a well shielded neutron detector next to a shielded nuclear reactor that produces neutrons at a research facility in France. All this shielding means the detector should not see any neutrons from inside the reactor. However, if the neutrons are leaking into another brane and then back into our world, they can bypass this shielding and trigger the detector.

    Seems like the more likely answer is the nuclear reactor isn't as well shielded as they hoped. Besides, how can you have a braneworld if the universe is a simulation of a hologram?

    That's a pretty wide swath to cut out for your equipment. It's a pretty densely populated area. A 25 km no-fly zone means people in nearby cities Alexandria & Arlington, Virginia, and Bethesda, Maryland wouldn't be able to fly these things. That's just 3 I spotted eyeballing the map.

    They are comparing a global economy (Apps) to a local US market.

    If you want to make an Apples to apples comparison (pun intended) when talking about jobs, you'd have to take into account all of the jobs created by European, Bollywood, etc. film industry.

    Ummm. Are you saying that the peoples' will is to keep the skies over the White House open to drones of all sorts? Really?

    Anything Schumer brews up won't be limited to White House airspace. It'll probably make it so you have to get a license from the FAA in order to fly a quadcopter in your yard. And in order to get a license, you'll need 20+ hours of training from a certified training facility, pass an FBI background check, etc.

    Same for the Ecoboost. It purrs at idle, but put your foot in it and you hear the horsepower.

    I just got a 2015 Ford Explorer, and that's exactly right. I was actually shocked at how quiet it is when it's idling, and how throaty it gets when I hit the gas to pass someone.

    You are comparing students who clearly are there just to get the credit for whatever reason and not pursuing CompSci as a degree to students who are majoring in it. Presumably people who want to learn to code are not just there to show up and retain their Pell grants. I am reading this as a false equivalence logical fallacy. It's also a very negative perspective on the untapped potential of today's youth.

    Nobody takes my Java course who *isn't* a Computer Science or Computer Information System major. I don't have business or English lit majors taking my courses. I know this because I have them fill out a survey on the first day, so no, it's not a false equivalence fallacy. But if I were you, I'd have a look at a different fallacy before constructing my arguments.

    No, you don't understand my argument at all. Rather it sounds like you're purposely being obtuse about the whole matter, and your opinions are tainted by class envy rather than concern for the individuals. You aren't doing anyone a favor trying to force them to be something they don't want to be simply because it makes you feel good.
