Have had three transmeta powered notebooks in the past but they are mostly too slow. Now have TR2 and it rocks like the TR3. Excellent balance between performance, size and extremely long battery life. This is the best notebook currently made, other than maybe that $3k xwhatever-o-thiner than a sheet of paper thing sony has now. Also, the very small Sony's are extremely reliable. They are still made in Japan, the big Sony's are made in China.

Regardless of the point in this case your ideas are strange. HA! Can you work for me and GET MY COFFEE BITCH! Are you Japanese or something, this is how they think. But this here is America and if your boss is widely known to suck, you kill'em. I live in Alabama as well (but work in NYC and CA) and I do not understand your point of view. I've seen many situations where a superior was a total piece of crap but had friends in high places. Difficult to destroy but yet they MUST BE DESTROYED. Give'em access required to read everyone's mail and let the son of a bitch hang himself, etc and so on. Whatever it takes to make the company better, frauds and slackers must be destroyed and I mean all the way up to the CEO unless the company is public. It is so pleasant to work in a place with people who do not suck and the only way to create that environment is by ejecting them.

That's the biggest problem with these things a machine that slow is going to be a dog with XP anyway and have a very short lifespan. I've got a U1 and have had many other ultra small Sony PC's and you have to spend a lot of time ripping out all the crap like IE, Outlook, etc to get the performance up, and then if you insist on installing that beast Office, the overall performance takes a huge hit.

"You can carry non-deadly weapons (pepper spray, etc)." As I understand it you can't have pepper spray in the UK. Agreed on the physical self defense part, and of course the most important part, being alert! If this guy were in the US and not UK I'd suggest he dress like a gun nut and then no mugger would want to mess with him. They are terrified of gun nuts. Also this would give him a lot of pockets for his geek tools. Since he's in the UK, all he can do is stay alert and if somebody kills him for his stuff, tough shit.

Read the article. These muggings are happening in England where you can't have a taser, gun or OC/pepper spray. Which some would say is why the muggings would be a problem in the first place. The first time the news talked up a dead iPod mugger, that'd be the end of it.
