So in order to totall screw someone all you have to do is get on their box, phisically or by cracking and download some kiddy porn. Then drop a dime on them (just in case you did not click on the honey pot) and voila! Instant conviction. Yes. some men have been convicted of child port violations with zero evidence above the files in their cache.
An RFID chip can be read from a distance. Reinforcing a stronger security measure with a weak one is hardly a solution. That is like saying: If they hack my uber encription then its ok because I replaced all the letters with their corresponding caesar number code below the encription.
Biometic ID has a catastrophic fundamental flaw that is never discussed. It can not be revoked. If you loose your credit card or it is stolen it can be revoked. Your password or pin are cracked, changed. Your retina, fingerprint, vein pattern etc.. is digitally compromised. You are screwed! Period! Next!
I wonder if google remembers one of the main reasons they won the search engine wars. Clean, uncluttered, acute functionality. I'm going to make a prediction/holds envelope to forehead..... When they start interrupting vidoes with adds...... Ebaums world will become the new youtube. ooooommmmmmm. (or just about any other free service with no interrupting adds).
I agree. I am a fan of most of the industrial design and ui design that comes out of Apple but if they lock this up I will be buying an Android or an Openmoko instead (i've been wating for a 3g Iphone and the release of the SDK). However, unless the government forces us all to buy iphones or all the other manufacturers go out of business because of it's leet crunchy goodness, I dont see how this could warrant antitrust sanctions and government involvement. If you don't like it. Buy ze other one.
The story is true and has a good point about early adoption and the value of the now defunct HDDVD. That said, it is not taking into consideration the fact that in 2 to 4 years phisical media delivery will likely be passee alltogether. BlueRay (Disclosure, I liked BlueRay more than HDDVD) will have a short lived victory now that Apple has broken into the download rental market. Once Apple takes the risks and gets a good working modle up (a la itunes store) then others will follow with more competitive pricing and featurs. Before I get flammed I know Apple was far from the first but they will push the envelope and stimulate adoption as they did with USB, i-pod, i-tunes distro model and now the i-phone. Love or hate that company you have to admit that once they adopt or invent a technology they seem to have a way of making it flourish.
Leonardo Domenici (born July 12, 1955) is an Italian politician. He has been the Mayor of Florence since June 13, 1999.
Domenici was born in Florence, from where he graduated in moral philosophyArticle
Too good. I wonder when they will learn this sort of tactic only fules the public's knowledge of what they are doing. Similar thing happened in the City of Miami Beach (still is as far as I know). The city made a sweet deal with a towing company for the whole island (miami beach is an island) as far as Police Towing was concerned. After this deal, the police started calling businesses on the beach to "help them see" that other methods like the boot were not a good idea. In one case, the chief of police actually visited a strip mall to help them "come around" and use the same company the city was using. They city then quietly stopped allowing the renewal of licenses to other towing companies.
Belive it or not it is a bit more sinister than that. Basically, the chip an pin scheme was not implemented to make the transactions more secure as much as to place a burden of responsibility on the customer. You pick the PIN, you are suposed to keep it safe, if you allow it to be stolen or share it then it is your fault. Just ask the lady who had to eat a loss because she admitted that her mother may have know her pin. Story
Now, if you think that is bad just substitute chip and pin with any biometric scheme. Once the "man in the middle attack" is perpetrated... how are you going to revoke your eyes, fingers, vein patterns?
I'm in Miami and experienced the horrific even (playing tennis for 45 minutes because I could not log into wow). I spoke to my bud in FPL (ze power company) and he told me that a massive transmission cable went down by aligator alley (I75 stretch that crosses the everglades). This created some load issues and a plant (non nuke) had to shut down to protect itself. This in turn routed more power to the rest of the grid creating the same effect we saw in California and in the NE in the past. Turkey Point, the nuke, was merely one of the plants that shut down to protect itself. Only reason we are talking about that one and not the others is that talking about nuclear power is sexy.
Forget the Gun Culture people. The Car Culture People are the ones that scare me. If there is a tool on this earth that kills more people than cars and should be scapegoated for the actions of it's wielder please let me know so that my ignorance can be more acutely focused.
I have tried showing them with a mock attack as suggested above but it never works. Recently, however, I have had a small victory in the "Teach the philistines they will suffer if they continue" war. I was shopping at The Container Store for some stuff (actual stuff omitted so they cant figure out who I am based on purchase data cross referenced with cc info. Just Kidding) and was asked what my phone number was when I paid for the stuff. I, to my wife's dismay, told the cute girl behind the counter that I would not give it to her because it was a danger to my security to do so and that it was irresponsible for them to ask their customers to publicly announce their phone numbers. She, as well as the people in the line behind me looked at me like I just said that aliens killed JFK with a locked soup thermos. The woman behind me told me that I was being a little paranoid and that no wrong could become me by giving the nice girl my number for her database. I told her that even if you disregard the fact that the store is probably selling the information or not keeping it safe from a storage point of view you still had to worry about who was in line with you also getting that information. She told me that short of crank calling someone with there was no danger. I gave here the following scenario which to my amazement hit a nerve with her and everyone else within earshot. What if I, who just heard the number of the shopper before me, wrote it down. One hour later I call that person and tell them that I am (insert The Container Store name tag name here) and that her credit card was rejected due to a bad read and that she needs to please come back to the store so that they may rescan it. Or, if she has it handy she can read off the number to him along with the security code on the back to save her the trip. I have never gotten such an amazing response from laymen to any other example as I have with this one. I have used it over and over and over now with much success.
I, for one, will not really be paying much attention to campaign blurbs but rather to past record. What good is it to agree with 90% of what a candidate says if you are 78% sure he is just telling you what you want to hear? As far as Obama being a geek choice. You might want to check out Barackspace
1st problem: Once again there are people missinterpreting religious dogma in order to satisfy their desires to express themselves.
2nd problem: religious dogma..... um period.
3rd problem: I'm pretty sure you could find someone offended by some aspect of every single article written in wikipedia to varying levles and with varying density.
Solution 1: Think for yourself
Solution 2: Think for yourself
Solution 3: Grow some balls and re read 1 and 2.
What makes you think that it's not the Iranian government (or a rogue faction (wow, that sounded like a clip from a cheesy game just then)) summarily killing all outgoing and incomming public communication? If sensoring public use of the interweb is too much trouble.... just kill it in such a way that you dont come off as the oppressor.
I hope you are either kidding or dont host anything too ilegal on that server. Changing batteries is hardly an anonnymous act. Unless you, while wearing a mask, pay a bumb you find far from the cafe to change them for you. Make sure its a different bumb each time and they are all %100 sure not to swipe your server or eat the batteries.
I'm afraid you lost me. How did I manage to make it sound like it was his fault that the OS had bugs? Was it when I said that all sofware has bugs, specially new extremely complex code?
I have been a personal computer user for 28 years. I have been writing software for 20 of those. I learned about 15 years ago not to buy the first of anything. Hell I even waited for the second version of the Honda CRF450 motocross bike (first one ended up with some issues) and honda is just about the best R & D house in the world. Why would you, I'm guessing at least a slightly intelligent person (slashdot user and all), assume something as uterly complex as an operating system would have zero bugs on its first release? Or do you just like to bitch?
Did you just call a company with $114,250,000,000 (that billllioon/pinky to mouth corner) in market capitalization a "boutique PC vendor"? Did you then say they are in the same market as a little company that sells specialty gaming rigs? I guess you were compeled to respond to [Crap] with [OverclockedAGP4accelatedHD Crap].

what can I say... read my sig.
I posted it below my last one as an attempt to keep my two comments/thoughts together but it, by itself was not germane to the parent.
Here is some irony:

Agreed. Must pay better attention to what reply button I use. Anonymous Cowards be dammed!

All you need to do is nix the grace period. Simple. If you are not the original registered owner you have to pay full price to register it.
A. "I learned about 15 years ago not to buy the first of anything." (Anything) B. apologist? does that not require an apology of some kind?
