I wonder how it came to be that many of us (myself included) started to mistakenly think that meta- had a more specialized definition--something like, a meta-X is a thing that does what X does to other stuff, but to X itself! Like a shelf that I hold my other shelves in is a meta-shelf, or a set that includes other sets is a meta-set (except that no one would ever say that with out getting smacked.) I guess I better run away before I get smacked.
You've attempted to infer something about the truth of the statements from impolite aspects of them. That is, you've stated my some of my comments are "emotional words" or "political slant", etc. You haven't said they are false. Note the difference.
Not that it's my place to say anything, but doesn't the first sentence quoted directly contradict with the third? If no one says they are false, no one infers anything about the truth of them.
Now the question of whether it's a statement worth making without modification is an entirely different one, with very different considerations.
Why did you add PDF to that list? We've got xpdf and acrobat for linux--which work far better than any DOC or XLS linux tool.

Just because humans use neurons for decision making doesn't mean machines have to. By analogy, humans use legs for locomotion, while machines are happy with things like wheels, treads, propellers, etc. Machines are not required to be copies of animals.
True, legs can do some things that wheels can't, likewise neurons will always be somewhat better at doing certain tasks than, say, logic. But wheels are fantastically better than legs at other things--travelling really fast on flat surfaces.
And logic has certain advantages that neurons can't hope to compete with. For example :
you won't be able to program an [neuron-based] AI
If you can't program it, what's the point of building it? We already have 6 billion Unprogrammable Intelligences, why do we need to make more artifically?
The difference between Napster and these new television technologies is that where you could get a song from Napster and say "hey, I'd like to here more of that band. I'll just go to cdnow/amazon/whatever to buy it." If you see a show you like from one of these p2p networks, the chances aren't so great that you could just buy more episodes of it--even though there's a much greater likelihood that I would want to buy more episodes of something I found online, as video quality online doesn't tend to be the greatest...
On Friday, the SEC issued a fake news release on behalf of McWhortle, saying the company would go public Wednesday, with company President Thomas McWhortle III holding a news conference at SEC headquarters. The release was distributed mainly to Web sites by a service for financial news. Financial news agencies that received the fake release were warned.
Financial Web sites posted information they knew to be false? Presumably, after the trap was sprung on clueless investors, you'd think they would look elsewhere for their financial information.
Kill the cow?! You think so small! Now you can grow YOUR OWN stem cells into extremely tasty people steaks! Maybe even into tasty human milk producing cells!

Whoops, looks like if the Emperor of China wants tax money for his nose, he'd better let he who pays the piper pick the song...
apple has been the most vigilant prosecutor of anything that violates their copyrights yet they seem doing better and better
Interesting, I have a a couple of G4 Towers and a G4 TiPowerbook. I have been useing Apples for many a year. Never once have they prevented me from burning MP3s onto my Nomad Juke or duplicating copywritten digital data (for my own personal use) to and from any other medium.
This paragraph doesn't suggest violation of Apple's copyright. Unless Apple joined the RIAA when I wasn't looking...
What Apple won't let me do is this: 1. Duplicate Apple system design or software for resale 2. Use Apple Logos and Branding to confuse or perpetuate myself as haveing affiliation with Apple or Apple corp Information.
In other words, Apple prosecutes anything that violates their copyrights. Right or wrong, anti-american or counter-revolutionary, I dunno. But it's still anal.
But then again, your Macs are way bigger and faster than my little iBook, so what do I know?
Sony probably didn't want to shut down the site completely, but threatening to do so was very effective in getting the owner's attention. You may not like it, but that's the way that things are done.
It was also very effective in getting the attention of potential Aibo customers/boycotters. Perhaps the legal department should listen to the public relations department and change "the way that things are done." If Sony had just asked for Sony programs to be removed, then blessed the Aibopet site, Sony would be in exactly the position they are in now with a lot less anti-Sony resentment in the marketplace.

Just think about it for a second and I'm sure that you will agree.
Crap, is this a subversive intellectual joke that I'm not getting?
Anyway, your claim (assuming the entire post wasn't a joke flying over my radar), is undermined by people NOT finding the same humor funny. There seems to be a subversive, abnormal humor (say abnormal instead of intelligent to avoid loaded value judgments clouding the water) that "regular" people don't get. The best example I know of would be Pokey the Penguin. Normal people look at it and wonder why I'm reading something that looks like it was drawn by a two year old. To fans it's the funniest thing ever made, and all other humor exists in imitation of Pokey the Penguin.
There is certainly some humor that has an abnormal quality, a quality which we dare not say is intelligent but is likely to correllate with intelligence, and a quality which is at least as subversive as all abnormality must be.
I also note that it is possible to see humor in a joke that the originator did not intend--in fact, I've seen humor where the originator intended to have humor in the work he/she would not be aware of! (Sometimes I'm the originator...)
Replace "smarter" in your post with "abnormal" and "dumb" with "normal". Flip the bits of the negations in your second paragraph. (i.e. There IS [obviously] a subversive abnormality. Abnormal people and dumb people do not both find the same slapstick humor funny. It does make me more abnormal than somebody else if I see further into a normal joke then they do.)
Then just think about it for a second and I'm sure that you will agree.
As it's been pointed out, Mac users would have to buy a new computer to switch to windows. Also worth pointing out is that there are actually good Mac-only games out, which would give you NO alternative to Mac if you want to play. I can't think of too many (er... any) commercial Linux-only games.
Wait, you can't just say "writing (porting)" as if writing and porting are the same thing. Perhaps if Loki were actually writing NEW linux-only games, instead of making ports to compete with cheaper Windows games months after the windows one was released, they'd have sold a lot better.
Of course, Loki probably didn't have the required skills to create new games (artists, writers and so on...) but even so, all Loki's failure provides evidence for is that a company with Loki's plan (port previously released Windows games to Linux) is extremely likely to fail.
