>but they really should have done so when they designed Windows.
No they shouldn't have. Can you imagine the problems with Windows 95, if they would have put tight security on it. Inexperienced computers users would have throw their hands up in frustration(why can't i install this program!, why won't the printer install! I forgot my password) why do i have to add a new user). Most people just want to get e-mail, surf the web, run quicken. As users starting demanding more(functionality, security, stability) they will switch to a different OS, or MS will have to improve. Which it seems they are trying.
Windows has plenty of room for improvement, but statement seems a bit of a reach.
My dad had a bunch of old records and tapes(which were given to me). Can I now legally downloads mp3 from Kazaa of these songs, burn them to a cd and listen in my car? I guess my question is do I have rights to the songs on a certain material or a song on any material? What if the record is destroyed but I still have the pieces and original cover?
I see and it would certainly be very difficult to track a missile. Hello!?! Point of the exercise is to show a laser can blow up a missle. One would think that tracking the missile would be the easy part. I believe certain warships can track quite a few at a time.
One time during college I let my hair grow a little long, for me that's past the collar and my beard about an inch long with no trimming. I had some older clothes and went into a computer store(about 10 years ago). No one would give me the time of the day. I learned a quick lesson: right or wrong people will judge you on how you dress. And it's not limited to the yuppies. Goto some hacker convention with a three piece suit and you will also be judged. Just the way it is.
Where I work just about anything is allowed. But it is a very small successful company and the owner is smart enough to let actions speak louder than clothes. But when clients come he expects us to look decent(no shorts and sandals, etc).
>Just because Hitler was 'for' something doesn't make it invalid. Hitler also (probably) believed 2+2 == 4. Should we rewrite mathematics since an evil person believed this and espoused this view?
Can we take something completely out of context? What are you talking about? The article was written that nazism and anit-abortion as they were related to each other.
I was under the understanding that Hitler was for abortion. An easier way to get rid of those he wanted. Much like the founder of planned parenthood. She was for abortion so the riff-raff wouldn't reproduce.
Since the thread is about chess this post is only slightly off-topic.
I am pretty good at strategy games, they seem to come natural. I have played against people I would consider highly intelligent and they were ok. For instance I had a friend in high school kinda geeky very intelligent. Never could beat me at chess yet he studied half as hard as I did in Calculus same grade. It was obvious he picked up Calculus quicker than I(much to my dismay) yet his chess skills always lacked. I don't think in either case it was a lack of previous experience or knowledge. Why is this and how do you think(if it does) stratgy skills help in the real world? Just curious
Excuse me for my lack of knowledge on the subject, but why can't a game tree for chess be made? I know it would be huge and take a long time to traverse, but isn't chess just like tic-tack-toe? Just on a much-much larger scale. And wouldn't it be a matter of time before it is impossible to beat a computer at chess? Just like you can't beat one at tic-tack-toe? What am I missing?
I would disagree, the right to bear arms was put in place to protect the citizens from the government. Let me say that again, from the government. As the government weapons increase then the citizens would also need to increase their firepower, for protection from the government.
btw I do not own a gun and I am not a member of NRA.
I agree, it seems that it might make sense that some of these MMORPG limit the hours a char can play. Or if they raise a level they have to sit out a day or so.
It would seem this would help curb the ultra-powerful pk's players. Less people would use macro's and bot's. Therefore more interaction. Also people would be less likely to become addicted if they could only play their char 20 hours a month. I know I won't play the EverQuests because of the time it takes to get a decent char. Any thoughts?
I completely agree, but they been sent similar infomation before and they were clueless, and I mean clueless. Quite disappointing. Makes me lose faith in the rest of their list. But maybe they will listen to you Wes.
Gads get a life. That fact it the using the keyboard in general is quicker than using a mouse. Ask any old-school word perfect secretary how much they like using the shortcuts instead having to use a mouse.
But you're right I would certainly call 50 year old ladies named "Nancy" super geeks, because they prefer clicking keys rather than a mouse. Go away now.
>A better example would be running hot water over stuck jar lid. The metal expands faster than the glass.
U know I have done that many times, but never thought as to why it works. For some reason I thought that the heat from the water loosened/melted whatever was sticking the jar and lid together.
How many here have one legit copy of Windows and copy for their other computer(s), or know someone who does? How many of those people would switch to Linux/FreeBSD etc if they had to pay?
How many of those people would eventually switch to Linux for both boxes? A good number I suspect.
In the past 3 years I have really taking a liking to Unix(mainly Linux and FreeBSD). Now my understanding is that FreeBSD is a better server platform(or at least it once was) than Linux.
My question: Why would the BBC use Linux over FreeBSD for their servers? Possible answers:
1. Linux has hype 2. Unix folks like using Linux as a desktop so it's a natural upgrade(Much like MS with NT) 3. FreeBSD it hard to use? 4....
I am in no way trying to bash Linux or FreeBSD(I use Linux at work, FreeBSD at home) just curious.
Please tell me don't flame saying one is better than the other unless it supports your argument about why Linux is being used more(or seems to be).
GAMES! My mom wouldn't touch a computer until I show her that she could play bridge on it. I also believe that is why MS put solitare on Windows 3.1. To get people used to a mouse and windows.
You missing one point. A lawn mower pollutes ten-times as much as a car, because there are no emissions control on a lawn mower. If you use a electic mower I would suspect the pollution would be lower than a gas powered because the power plant that produced the juice for the electic mower had scrubbers and what not.

Ok did the 3 Service Packs statement rub anyone else the wrong way? Or was it just me?
How is this a troll?

Try Wyoming I believe they have about 200,000 people living there, 20,000 folks would be a little under 10%.

Holding a saltine in my mouth seems to curb watery eyes. I look stupid but it works. How? Not really sure.

So don't make lids out of this stuff!

Minesweeping! I was able to get the easy level finished in 8 secs! Oh wait you're talking about something aren't you? :(
I must not understand these FSF folks very much.
Am i correct in saying that feel charging money for any software in evil?
Do they hate the BSD license?
I don't know if the above statement is true, but it did make me laugh.

I am no expert so correct me if I am wrong.
