    Believe it or not, too much water can kill you(it's alot) and there have been people who become addicted to water. I undersatnd it screws around with electrolytes in the brain achieving some kind of high. So even water can be bad for you!

    Good point, I believe anyone would is not capable of producing in society whether they can or not should be put down. I mean that's what a smart farmer does to animals. As a matter of fact why don't you hold the gun. You can get rid of all the fat slobs you sit around doing nothing, the recluses who give nothing, the severally physically disabled who can't do anything, and those with IQ lower than 40 who are too stupid to contribute anything.
    But wait! If we kill off the stupid people then you would be the first to go.

    You people crack me up. First I agree AOL sucks, but why do you think people are idiots for using it? There are a number of good reasons to use AOL:

    1. It works and is fairly easy for most users to setup

    2. Lots of access numbers

    3. It is very user friendly

    See most people just want to browse the internet and get some mail, maybe talk in the chat rooms and do some IM. These want to spend very little time understanding the innards of their computer and their OS's innards.

    So please stop calling these people idiots.

    And btw AOL is actually faster for common web sites than most ISP's as they cache the web pages.

    Where i used to work VMS machines ran the "lines." Each hour that these "lines" were down cost the company about 1 million. I left about 3 years ago and at that time they were planning on moving everything to Windows NT(2000 wasn't out yet). I don't hate Windows by why risk that much money on Windows? Seems funny now.

    btw this is one of the largest companies in the world.

    Seems they may not be a big deal for most folks, if your power is out how are you going to use your computers? Anyway most power outages don't last that last long(couple secs) which wouldn't be a big deal for broadband.

    You walk into a store, and you need the best pair of work boots available. This is an important pair of boots because you will have to wear them for two straight years and nothing else.
    Also, let's assume you know nothing about the quality of different brands, etc.

    You see 4 boots each priced as follows: $25, $35, $50, $100. Which pair do you choose?

    Most would choose the $100 pair. It is most likely to have the highest quality. You would only choose a different pair if you knew what to look for in a quality pair of boots. I would guess companies don't know what to look for thereby choosing the safest option.

    What ever you do don't go through Dell Financial Services. My experience with them was so bad that I will gladly waste karma and time to tell people.

    Some things:

    1. I received a rude bill for $.05(no kidding)
    2. I was called numerous time after I paid off my entire bill saying I better pay or they would report me.
    3. One time I received a call asking me if I had the decency to return their calls.(After I already had)
    4. If you paid more than the monthly bill it would screw everything up on their end.
    5. Can't pay a bill on their web site, and they make it nearly impossible to pay over the phone.

    They are so bad I almost think they do it on purpose to squeeze out more money from "customers".

    If anyone has any info I would like to hear it.

    I taught math for exactly one year. My biggest problem with teaching was not teaching algebra but fractions!! They were never taught how to add and multiply fractions, except by using a calculator. Some of these kids were quite intelligent and had no problems with
    x^2 +6x +8 =0 but (x+1)/2 = 4 and they were lost. All the blame can't be laid on the jr/sr high some of it also falls before they get there.

    You have spent time and money developing software. You have made money selling it to businesses and various government agencies. You pay taxes to the government some of which goes to pay people to create software which can put you out of business. Something to think about.

    Not saying that your wrong, but you need some kind of proof when you make a statement like that. I find it hard to believe that MS paid less than $20,000 in taxes. But I could be wrong.

    You know why tech support sucks?

    Because people will not pay for it. Margins are too low for companies to give good tech support. Consumers are only looking at prices/features not how good their tech support is. Who here is going to pay an extra $100 to $200 a year just for good tech support? Not many. Businesses are different, but most consumers are not going to pay the money to get good tech support.

    Funny thing is I have no problems with Linux, FreeBSD justs seems to be a better fit for me(especially with my older computers(486's and 586's).

    ok, but there are benefits to this method.

    2) BSD users are to the Unix world like how Mac users are towards Window users "Use my superior OS you inferior idiot"

    hehe, and I have never heard a Linux weenie say the same about Windows and BSD

    3) They're obsessed with the opposition, they mention Linux, constantly

    True! This hurts more then people think.

    5) Linux isn't as bad as they try to say it is. If you want quality, get a quality distribution like Slackware and not a hashed together commercial distro.

    Maybe not but my experience with FreeBSD has been so much more pleasant(spelling?) than working with Linux. Please note I use FreeBSD for server type stuff and basic X-Windows(vtwm). I don;t use it for music, games, etc..

    I believe BSD isn't spreading more because of market hype than anything else. Which is fine.

    Two things off hand that bug me about Windows windowing system.

    Normally what you cut and paste, you have to do:

    1. highlights with mouse

    2. either
    a. ctrl-c to copy
    b. right-click and choose copy

    3. either
    a. ctrl-v to paste
    b. right-click and choose paste

    X-Windows
    1. highlight with a mouse, double will get the word and triple click will get the whole line

    2. paste using middle button

    much easier and quicker.

    To me Windows apps are made to be self-contained. And I find working with more than one to burdensome. Also, the virtual windows can be quite nice, especially when working with unrelated windows.

    I forget the second right now because my boss walked in during the middle of the note! :-0

    Again, each have their strengths but going from a NT admin job to a different position at a unix-shop, i find that I like x-windows more and more.

    Ok I have a friend who has something similiar to this. He can control all the lights in his house from his palm pilot. He also programs the lights with his palm. I know he had to do some custom coding but it is pretty neat maybe useful.

    btw it's a big house and he quite smart

    My God! Why would you want Tim Burton to do a C.S. Lewis book! Anyone but Tim Burton!

    On another note, remember Narnia is for children, he has a bunch of great books with alot more meat. The Great Divorce being one of my favorites books of all time.
