    Not what I was implying at all.

    Ther eis a difference between uses a calculator as a tool and using a calculater as a crutch.

    I could teach my daughter(5 years old) how to multiple number on the calculator, But does she understand what she is really doing.

    The kids are being tested on fractions, therefore don't let them uses a calculator that does fractions.

    If they are doing trig or calc let them use a calculator.

    But if they are being tested on the graphics of linear equations, don't them use a graphings calculator.

    Like letting kids use a dictionary on a spelling test.

    Why did you multiply by 15?

    You found the LCD of the two fractions, this is something you would learn when adding fractions. Sure it may just make sense but when the equations get more complicated you have to know how to add fractions when everything is variables.

    2x/y + 3/x = 4x etc

    I think you get the point.

    What's wrong with the fraction function?

    Nothing unless you are being tested on fractions.

    A kid who can't add 3/5 + 5/6 without a calculator will have a hard time solving for x in this equation when he gets to algebra.

    x/5 + 2x/3 = 13

    This is the fundamental source of buffer overflows and most software crashes. No language since C (other than C++) has worked that way. The Pascal/Modula/Ada family, Java, and all the scripting languages have subscript checking. But C does not. We pay a huge, huge price for this.     It is not the Express version.

    Came with some SQL server software also.

    But the another numbers can't be put any way you want? Remember no repetition?

    But once you have the first 3 lines the rest is pretty easy.

    The chart I saw compared US with other country's

    Does that also include the other country's savings.

    i.e. Japan saved 18%

    Does that not include housing(they rent more?)

    Stallman clearly states that software developers should not get paid anymore than a gas station clerk.

    There is a lot of places to save money other than a bank.

    A bank should only be used for short term savings.

    Where's the incentive? How about what are you going to live on when you 65?

    Dpending upon your age, you really don't have to save that much a month.

    If a 18 year old just maxed out his ROTH IRA every year($2,000) he would most likely be set come 65.

    I am interested in money stuff.

    Americans are the worst in the world when it comes to saving.

    One year 2002? the savings rate was -.2%

    That's worse than pitiful.

    I moved in the beginning of summer to a small town where I knew no one 8th grade.

    I had a little TI-99 computer.

    I wore it out the summer. I couldn't get any new games for it, so I started programming my own.

    graphics sucked on that machine so they were all text games but looking back they weren't that bad.

    A few years later I got a IBM AT and was so excited about the possibility of programming.

    I ended just playing Might and Magic all the time.

    Sure, I tauhg myself C, but my lack of self-discipline cost me.

    Funny, looking back I enjoyed the programming more than the playing of games.

    But even now I would rather game than program.

    I would agree. I think one reason why America has done well for so long is because of immigrants.

    Most immigrants are willingly to work their arse off to get ahead. They also value education more so then the average american.

    At least that he been my perception.

    The GPL sucks for businesses. That's why Stallman came up with it.

    I believe, Open Source is good for business in the long run, but I can't understand why most businesses would use GPL software in their code.

    It may save them time but many times there is just as good BSD-type software out there.

    I find the whole thing quite interesting and will be fun to watch over the decade.

    Not at all a waaa. The Germen won because of the time and effort they were willing to put in. And there robot programming skill

    But having a sponser certainly helps. Where the Germans had 20? people working on it, some full time. The Americans, according to the article, were working on it between classes.

    Congrats to the Germans, untill the Americans take it more seriously they will be lucky to win.
