Thats the whole goal the republican party isnt it?
That's actually the goal of government in general, regardless of the party.
There are several writers out there that prove uncategorically that a decline in morality due to a lack of self-control leads the people to elect leaders (tyrants) to control them.
The loss of civil rights you mention is a direct result of people not being able to control themselves. Since we live in societies and need some form of control, in the abscence of self-control we elect leaders who will provide the control that the society requires. This usually takes the form of tyranny.
"Tyranny grows from a lack of self-control. Our passions forge our chains." (Rousseau, quoted in Against Excess, by Mark Kleiman)
"The only completely certain restraint is self-control based on the voluntary acceptance of certain moral and ethical standards and principles." (Philip of England )
How many of you have dealt with these Asian techies and have been on the phone longer due to a misunderstanding between yourself and a techie?
I always complain when I am on a tech support call with someone whose primary language is not American English. I may be an asshole for doing it but a number of customer complaints is what caused Dell to move jobs back from India.
Unless and until India starts playing by the same rules the US plays by, anything is fair in this battle.
I agree. It seems that some people have an innate ability to find what they want in search engines....and some do not.
I am often stupified by how stupidly some people search. I still think that early search engines like Webcrawler and Lycos forced me to really learn how a search engine works, how to make boolean and grouping by quotes work for me. The power is incredibly but so little used.
Advanced operators help immensely but I wonder how many searches use them. The concept of narrowing or widening a search by adding or removing terms is key but how many are taught that concept? Wildcards can eliminate ambiguity but do regular folks know that they exist?
I wish Google would more prominently display their search help like they used to.
I do the same thing- ignore articles that refer to the NYT. It is telling that so many submissions from/. readers reference the n.y times- groupthink at it's finest. For a group of people that supposedly values its independent thinking,/.'ers seem to be NYT lemmings.
I read Slashdot because the people here tend to refute my views, not agree with them. I wish that the readers would do the same in their choice of daily reading.
The outright leftist bias of the NYT and their willingness to lie makes them an ill choice for reference.
Just another leftist crying 'blacklist'

I found a couple of extremely biased statements in the article. I stopped reading....just another liberal who cries about a supposed denial of his rights on one hand while seeking to deny those right of others on the other. Where I come from we call them hypocrites.
I'd say that these are fair trades for what you say is monopoly. The fact is that like nobody will invest the huge amounts of capital required unless a return is somewhat guaranteed. Not all monopoly is bad.
Your employment at AOL makes you no more informed on the topic than my wearing UnderArmor makes me informed on that business.
The fact remains that AOL used artificial means to inflate their user numbers and now the facade is coming crashing down.
Apparently, I am not the only one who feels this way:
" America Online (AOL) may have inflated subscriber numbers since the year 2000, according to The Wall Street Journal 's Friday report. Suspicion arose regarding AOL's subscriber numbers after the company dropped 846,000 subscriptions in the second quarter. The company admitted that part of the drop was due to inaccurate accounting. The large drop in subscriptions is believed to be the result of the company correcting subscription numbers inflated from the bulk sales of accounts.
Beginning in 2000, AOL would sell bulk accounts to companies such as Target, Sears, and JC Penney. These limited-use accounts were sold to the companies for as little as US$1 to $3 each. These accounts were in turn sold to employees of the three companies at a cost of US$10, with the companies keeping the remaining profit. The gross number of accounts sold to a company would be reported in AOL's subscriber totals, even though the company had not resold the account to an actual subscriber yet."(http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2003Jul/ge e20030728021035.htm)
And from Forbes:
"A steep drop in subscriber growth at America Online, a unit of AOL Time Warner Inc (nyse: AOL - news - people), may in part reflect a halt in promotions that inflated its numbers in the past, the Wall Street Journal said on Friday. "(http://www.forbes.com/newswire/2003/07/25/rtr103 7837.html)
So much for "anecdotal bullshit". Your move dude....
BTW, I love that pic. Haven't seen it in awhile though.
The problem is that the marketing droids see "unlimited" as a convenient, useful buzzword that someone else has to deliver (Techs). The lawyers solve(?) the problem by fine-printing the difference between the marketers and the techies.
Be honest with yourself, can you read one of her columns objectively without feeling dirty? If you can, do you think that says anything about you as a person?
Please tell me how what you just did is any different than what you accuse Ms. Coulter of? You just did it in a nicer way.
You just implied that everyone should be disgusted by her and those who aren't are not good people. Your fancy prose notwithstanding, you are a pathetic hypocrite. At least Coulter doesn't piss on people's heads and tell 'em it's raining like you do.
Just out of curiousity, when did you get your userid? I read./ for years before actually getting an id and posting and now I wonder what might have been....
Which is a standard lable for anyone who disagrees with the liberal point of view. This lable is used so much to describe so much that it has lost its meaning- thankfully.
That weapon can no longer be used effectively to limit open discussion.
...the only common progress this planet has seen so far.
Perhaps if you could give me some examples of the actual progress you claim it would help. I am not talking about uptopian dreams that never came to fruition due to a lack of understanding of basic human nature. Also not counting are anti-American measures like the international criminal court.

Slavery, India does much to keep their wages low.

Which is why your argument is biased, emotional, and ..... meaningless.
Jesus (and I) still love you. And I mean that and so do my Christian friends. Peace....
Don't flatter yourself, you're worth only three lines .
Schoolyard or not, I make it a point not to waste my time with people whose first response is a label.

Take a look here to see where the big money is coming from....and more importantly where it's going.
Strong women that don't fit with your idea of what a feminist should be intimidate you huh?
