Right, I was breaking into two cases one, where your the author and one where your not. This whole conversation is about the following suggested copyleft text from the FSF for applying the GPL version to your program.

This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or
modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License
as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2
of the License, or (at your option) any later version.

What i'm saying is that if an author uses this scheme, somebody down the road can't say "I decided I'm using v3 so you owe me something" since you can still decide that your using version 2.

  4. Re:Why trust anyone? on Linus Says No GPLv3 for the Linux Kernel · · Score: 1

Your analogy is a little off since the original author is not bound by any license and even if your user chooses version 3, your still free to distribute under version two. nobody can make you do anything. Now it could be possible that a later version could give a freedom away that you want to keep for yourself - that would be the only risk.

  5. Re:Why trust anyone? on Linus Says No GPLv3 for the Linux Kernel · · Score: 1

Someone at MIT could never take away rights as the end user could still opt to use GPL2 at their discretion - the FSF could only add more options to which the user could adopt by using the software as GPL3.

And I would hardly call the tablature thats available today "sheet music". They are mostly created by-ear and the chords are voiced to the liking of whomever figured it out. This is hardly an equal product to actual guitar tab books.
For thoose who aren't guitarists, Tab looks like this:

    ---0----------
    ---0----------
    ---1--2------
    ---2--2------
    ---2--2------
    ---0----------

This would be an E chord followed by an A chord if your playing along at home.

The numbers represent frets to push down on and the lines represent which strings to pluck.

There's no timing and is far from ideal.

All I can say is thank god for NPR. Contrary to popular belief, i find their news to balanced and informative belief (go listen to their coverage of the '04 election - you'll find they cover bush just as much as kerry and both in postive and negative lights. If anything, I thought they covered Bush more favorably - and i'm not a Bush fan to say the least....) NPR picks stories that are just fascinating. Stuff you always wanted to hear about - you just didn't know it yet. I keep telling my friends if they could make a news channel with NPR's standards, I'd be a happy man. Not to mention, the weekend fare is quite entertaining - big fan of "Wait Wait, dont' tell me" and "A Prarie Home Companion", "Car Talk", "Echos", "Travels Through Space", etc, etc, etc. I make a little donation every year and they bring me so much.

Really whats the difference tho? The theory of evolution says the same forces are at work whether we're talking macrosopically (say, a germ that gains the ability to spread easily to between humans will be more successful at being the best germ it can be then the germ that does not, hence giving that germ an upper leg to become the predominant species present) or an anmial that develops the abliity to respond to light (see, may have you) is at an advantage over species that cannot in some habitats.
