    So, let me get this straight. AT&T owns miles and miles of dark fiber. And they are also an ISP.

    Well, that's reasonable to say that the astronomical "order of magnitude" = 2.5.

    But the reason most people think "order of magnitude" is x10 is because that's the basic definition of "order of magnitude".

    The biggest problem with social programs is that you can't cut them and shunt the money over to military applications when you need to. Too many people are depending on those social programs.

    Just like any new weapon.

    It will go though its development phase. They'll tinker with it when it hits the field. Then after about 10 years of use they'll come up with a newer version that works quite well.

    For something made by a government contractor that is. :)

    Wavelengths for chemical lasers are easy to look up.

    I'm actually puzzled about this article. It says "Solid State" but I think they're talking about the free electron laser. Which I was told has a theoretical max efficiency of 40%

    Which I guess can be considered solid state, if by solid state you mean "Not chemical".

    If it is the free electron laser, then it's impossible to tell you the wavelength, because the wavelength is adjustable.

    If that's the case. Then what's to prevent the government from inisting that you go though a clinic to reproduce?

    So they can go though the genes of a fertized egg and only give back the ones that don't have any problems?

    After all, it will save you a TON of money in the long run.

    So, how much ransom are we holding Noriega for?

    Yeah, I hear the police "Kidnap" people all of the time! Toss them into small concrete rooms!

    As for the "Lawful" aspect. It seems to be in a gray area of power politics. At the very least tell us who is suing us over this?
