    Boy, it sure would be nice to have them enter the same market that Oracle is in, but at a drastically lower price.

    I mean, it's not like they would *depend* on the money their new Database division wold bring in.

    What do you mean? Shareholders already have a say in what the CEO is paid. They can buy and sell the stock.

    CEO pay is part of the value of a company. If you think he's being overpaid, don't buy it.

    Oh god. Millions? MILLIONS?

    I know of self published authors that only managed to sell 500 of their self published books on Amazon.

    There are authors that are good, and are trying to break into the business. But the money isn't good. Only if you become "Steven King popular" does the money get fantastic.

    So, why the pittance for Authors? Don't you want your favorite Author to make a living?

    I support my favorite Authors by buying their e-books.

    This is also normal.

    These are all normal traits that that vast majority of people have.

    The "Hard liners" in congress have proposed 100Bn in spending cuts, on a 1400Bn deficit.

    That is the biggest fix the US politicians could come up with, and half of them are whining about how it's too much.

    It's not worthless yet. But the US is going to hit a financial wall very soon, very hard.

    Empathy doesn't just kick in because a human somewhere died.

    You actually have to connect or feel similar in some way to them.

    Lack of empathy to someone you can't connect to is normal.

    And then what? Start up a sort of internal coast guard to constantly rescue people from remote areas?

    Here's an idea. You're responsible for yourself. If you go hiking into the middle of nowhere and get lost without any preparation, skill, or foresight, you'll probably die.

    Stop trying to save people from themselves by taking ever larger chunks of my paycheck. I would like to be able to work for myself someday and people like you are bound and determined to make sure I stay someone's slave.

    Welcome to capitalism.

    Buy things you think are worth the price, don't buy things you don't. The market will respond.

    As for me, I agree with you 100% and I've been a Kindle owner for years now. This has lead me down the path of trying new Authors who are trying to build a name for themselves. They do it by offering lower priced books, or even giving away the first book in a series.

    It's been great!
