    I have never heard the new health care bill described as "Just like what they have in Japan!"

    Maybe it's not the "Inbred Morons", maybe it's those who think they're mentally superior. In other words, it's you and your attitude that you're just too good to explain the health care bill to the populace.

    And citing platitudes is not explaining.

    The best technological solution is to break up the sun into non-fusing lumps, and then use the remaining hydrogen to power an artificial sun.

    There's enough hydrogen in there to outlast the end of the universe.

    Which successful system doesn't? Once the winners get to the top of any system, it's in their self interest to stay there. It's best to deal with it after the fact, instead of placing down onerous rules that hamper everyone.

    China, India, and Brazil aren't advancing due to their awesome social policies. That's capitalism baby.

    However when so many governments of the world create laws banning supersonic flight over their airspace, you stop advancing.

    Creating molecules using Polymerase and DNA is very cool, but I'm having trouble coming up with a goal where biological chemicals are the answer.

    And it's not science until you can actually *make* the chemicals and test them on something.

    Nonsense. All the examples given thrives because they found a market that wasn't being served well. They jumped in with a solid product and was rewarded by the marketplace.

    Now we have database programs, solid OS's and spreadsheet programs. Those spots are taken and if you start a 3 man shop to challenge that, you'll lose.

    You have to find a niche that isn't being fulfilled if you want to become the next Microsoft. Or you can throw up your hands and proclaim that "Everything that can be invented has been invented."

    The software company I work for found a niche that wasn't being met by the market. We're not going to have explosive growth, but we're making a profit.

    Are you kidding? I've yet to see any kind of LCD screen stand up to direct sunlight. I read e-paper in direct sunlight all the time.

    It's whole purpose for existing is to be able to be read in direct sunlight.

    You now have a Kindle that Amazon will never be able to delete stuff from. When are you placing your order?

    I never read with my wireless on. It's always off until I'm looking for a book, then I turn it on, go shopping, download, turn it off.

    With the wireless on, the Kindle only can stay powered for days instead of weeks.

    So you're saying whenever someone jumps on Amazon and starts selling books that they don't own, Amazon has to go replace those books with legit copies?

    You're right. Since we've never actually made an AI, we have no idea what the baseline is.

    What if all correctly functioning AIs act like Pee-wee Herman?

    I avoided Vista.

    But recently it became time to do my yearly "Wipe and reinstall" of XP. And I realized that I really wanted a working 64 bit OS to match my 64 bit CPU and 4GB of memory (Which only 3.3 was accessible).

    Windows 7 has been great, the only problem for me has been the Nvidia drivers. Team Fortress 2 will crash if you play long enough, and updating the Nvidia drivers from stock windows makes it worse. Also my Canon scanner doesn't have 64 bit drivers. I'm sure it would work if I changed to Windows 7 32-bit.

    I've recently added another 4GB to my machine and it's been working fine. I have no reason to go back to XP.

    My XP install was 32 bit. Just installing Windows 7 gave me 700MB more RAM, and now I can go up to 8GB if I wanted to.
