"Screw this. I'm going to write about a farm. With a horse. And he will act like horses do and eat hay. He will not be genetically engineered super-horse that's plugged into the online universe, hacking the orbital death ray lasers.
His name will be Fred.
Fred will whinny and snort while trotting about the pasture. The only thing fantastic about Fred will be the sheer amount of manure he produces."
They made plenty of money from low government taxes. So much that they were going to build a new baseball stadium with 70% of the costs coming from taxes.
What they did wrong was decide to fix the surface of the bridge instead of the foundation of the bridge first.
There's a point where taxes get so low that you're not bringing in more money. But taxing is so easy for any government to do, that they're usually pushing the high end of the envelope.
Meaning, cut back taxes, which puts more money into the economy, speeding it up, which brings in more tax money.
I'd guess the reason you were modded down by someone, is because you're just sitting there bitching instead of putting out useful solutions. Frankly, I hear enough bitching from useless people in real life.
Both condoms and the pill have significant failure rates...
Are you kidding me? Have you seen the stress testing for condoms?
And when was the last time you've heard of a pregnant woman releasing eggs and getting pregnant again halfway through her pregnancy? The pill uses the same biological mechanism for that.
You're just parroting things that follow your personal beliefs/fears without using critical thinking.
"Think about what he's done"? Are you serious? Do you think he went off and murdered people on a whim? That it wouldn't have happened if he just put some thought into it?
One of the main reasons for prison is to keep people safe from the wolves among us. In the old days they would be killed to get the same result.
I've always been a fan of AMD, but I agree with your point.
It doesn't matter if it's two dual cores in one package. It doesn't matter if it's 4 single cores with a highly trained monkey dividing up the instructions between the cores. It's the end results that matter.
However, right now you can't get the 300$ quad core from Newegg, it's sold out. You *can* get a 61$ dual core from AMD though. And unless you require a lot of processing power, it's more than enough for most people. Especially college students on a budget.
I'd go as far to say that if you're on a budget, it's a no-brainer. Even if you could use the processing power the Quad core chip brings you, a 239$ difference is huge.
655,000 is a fact? Are you sure about that? Heck, I work in the real world, I'll give you +-5%.
So, what methodology did they use?
The survey was conducted between May 20 and July 10 by eight Iraqi physicians organized through Mustansiriya University in Baghdad. They visited 1,849 randomly selected households that had an average of seven members each. One person in each household was asked about deaths in the 14 months before the invasion and in the period after.
The interviewers asked for death certificates 87 percent of the time; when they did, more than 90 percent of households produced certificates.
Of the 629 deaths reported, 87 percent occurred after the invasion. A little more than 75 percent of the dead were men, with a greater male preponderance after the invasion. For violent post-invasion deaths, the male-to-female ratio was 10-to-1, with most victims between 15 and 44 years old.
Gunshot wounds caused 56 percent of violent deaths, with car bombs and other explosions causing 14 percent, according to the survey results. Of the violent deaths that occurred after the invasion, 31 percent were caused by coalition forces or airstrikes, the respondents said.
Burnham said that the estimate of Iraq's pre-invasion death rate -- 5.5 deaths per 1,000 people -- found in both of the Hopkins surveys was roughly the same estimate used by the CIA and the U.S. Census Bureau. He said he believes that attests to the accuracy of his team's results.
That's what facts look like. You'll notice that 655k is a number that they pulled out of their ass. It's a guess.
It is not a fact.
And your willingness to believe the statement at face value instead of checking it for yourself should be troubling to you.
In a war zone the only real thing that gives the U.S. an upper hand over our competition is the elevated level of technology we possess.
Yeah, that's what the Al-queda told their troops. "Without their superior technology, the Americans are pussies. Let them come here and we'll fight them hand to hand."
And then the Marines came in and kicked their asses.
It's the Western way of thinking that gives the US an upper hand over non-western opponents. Once warfare advanced beyond a tribal level, the mind became the best weapon.
U.S. Immigration contributes over 2.25 million people to the U.S. population annually (1.5 million legal immigrants and illegal immigrants as of 2001-2002, now estimated at 1.7 million in 2003)
Seeing how we're getting 1.5 million, LEGAL immigrants a year, it can't be that bad.
The US Immigration system is not set up to allow people in, it's to filter people out.
The cry from Republicans has always been that socialized medicine is some slippery slope to communist rule because doctors won't be their own bosses anymore.
Actually, it's been "Let the government take over medical care so it can be as successful as the Post Office, Amtrack, or Social Security!"
The truth is though that you can't apply capitalism to medicine because if you're dying of a heart attack or some other emergency you can't choose between Macy's prices and Walmart's prices in ERs. You go where the ambulance will take you.
Under government rule, you're lucky if the ambulance shows up. And who knows where they'll take you.
You can almost never pin doctors or hospitals down much with "What will this cost?"
Really? For an emergency I can see that. But after going to a doctor, listing your options, investigating those options, you can't figure out how much things will cost? If you can do it, why would someone else be able to?
You are at the mercy of the bill they will send and if you are uninsured you can be sure it will be approaching if not beyond what you can earn in a year to stay in the hospital a few days.
Yep. Not much difference between that and the tax collector coming around and having you at his mercy? (Note: Under the government system, your hospital stay will be paid by taxes.)
Look at the effort to discredit Michael Moore's "Sicko".
After seeing his Fahrenheit 9/11, can you blame them? Moore doesn't set out to educate, just to attack and entertain. Try talking to someone who takes *everything* in one of Moore's movies as Gospel sometime.
No, it's high because of the inherent costs of running a private business. A state-run health service doesn't need a huge marketing budget, hordes of expensive executives, actuaries, salesmen, brand consultants, dividends, etc. etc. etc.
Where have you seen a cost analysis that showed this was a problem?
Or maybe the cost of living in NY is higher. So they have to pay their players more if they actually want them living anywhere near the field.
Really? And here I thought there would be a bell curve applied to programmers. With the bulk of them being ok, and maybe 10% being great.
Allow me to translate...

Actually, in this case it's needed. Do you think HD manufacturers haven't been making HDs as cool and quiet as they could?
By wrapping the drives in insulation and using water cooling to give the heat a pathway to escape, they can kill 5 decibels.
Of course 25 years in prison will effect a person.
You're assuming it will fix them though. The "Effect" can lead to anything.
What do you mean that's no reason? Yes it is.
I'd guess the reason you were modded down by someone, is because you're just sitting there bitching instead of putting out useful solutions. Frankly, I hear enough bitching from useless people in real life.

Oh man, you must have missed it. Music was destroyed yesterday.
People have been coping by turning to Rap.
"Think about what he's done"? Are you serious? Do you think he went off and murdered people on a whim? That it wouldn't have happened if he just put some thought into it?
One of the main reasons for prison is to keep people safe from the wolves among us. In the old days they would be killed to get the same result.
You're right. We should get rid of the rape aspect of prison and just leave the wholesome race wars.
Prison sucks. It sucks for the people who go there, it sucks for the people who work there, and it sucks for the society that has to pay for it.
Yeah, if only there was some way for girls to keep from getting pregnant.
Ah well, it'll never happen, that's sci-fi tech. Way up there with "Faster than light travel" and "True AI".
Are you kidding?
Having a vehicle with a max driving time of an hour a day isn't very useful. Why in the world do you think people would buy those?
It sounds like you're thinking of a "Pay as you go" plan.
I just bought a standard bar phone from t-mobile, 100$ gets you 1000 minutes.
Since I don't really use my phone all that often, it's great for me.
I've always been a fan of AMD, but I agree with your point.

The last time I checked, the US accepts 1.2 million legal immigrants a year.
http://www.cis.org/articles/2001/back101.html
Exactly how many immigrants does the US have to accept to make you happy?
Europe is being overwhelmed by immigrants who have no interest in assimilating, and are bringing their failed cultures with them.
As to the Mexican War, if the "Native Americans" are so awesome, why isn't Mexico the economic powerhouse of the world?
Just another failed culture, sending it's most productive people to the US.
So, what methodology did they use?
That's what facts look like. You'll notice that 655k is a number that they pulled out of their ass. It's a guess.

What rock have you been living under since the Berlin Wall fell?
You can not take and hold land, or rebel, without people on the ground working towards that objective.
Period.
We wouldn't need the Marines, Army, or Navy if this wasn't the case.
I worked in a vacuum once. After your eyeballs explode, it's not that bad.
Ok, it's pretty bad. But you can get used to anything.
Seeing how we're getting 1.5 million, LEGAL immigrants a year, it can't be that bad.
The US Immigration system is not set up to allow people in, it's to filter people out.
Where have you seen a cost analysis that showed this was a problem?
The vast majority of people aren't wealthy. To those people, your suggestions are as realistic as "Why fix your car? Buy a new one!"
I've spent far less on my color laser printer and paper than I would have on your answers.
"See US Health care per person government expenditure vs Canadian per person expenditure"
See it where?
