First there's the salary. Assuming that they'll never ever work overtime, they'll get 19,760 pre tax. That looks like they'll be paying 2586 in federal taxes if they're single. Less if they're married or have kids. Oklahoma state taxes take out an extra 6.65% (1142). So you're at 16,032. We'll bring it down to 15k for any other taxes that I've missed.
Next, they don't need a car, they're bussed to their job. No car payments, no insurance, no paying for gas. Plus if they're looking to improve themselves, 3 hours on the bus a day will give them PLENTY of time to read and study.
Yes, they're spending 12 hours a day away from home. But a regular job isn't that much different. Take an unpaid hour off for lunch, an hour to commute, and you're at 11 hours a day.
Cost of living index for Oklahoma is 91.2, which is good. 91.2$ will buy you the same thing as 100$ in an average city.
So, you have 15,000, how will you live? Using apartmentfinder.com, you can get a nice 1bd 1bth for 320$ a month in "Huntington Hollow". Add another 100$ for power and heat. Another 100$ a month depending on how you want to do your phone/cable/internet. Leaving 730$ a month for food, clothes, beer, etc.
That guy is doing better than I am! With the higher cost of my 1br condo, a car payment (Corolla), insurance and gas, I've got 600$ a month to cover food an extra stuff.
'Small Gods' is my favorite Pratchet book. I'm not too sure how it would work on the screen though.
Terry Pratchet's work performs best in the book medium. If he were to try to make a movie, my suggestion would be for him to write a movie script. A completely new work. Get together with a good director and play the film medium to it's strengths.
Woah, that scenario screams "Bad Management". When the company bought the machine originally, they knew it would only last for so many years. (We'll say 15). It goes into the accounting books as depreciation. Now, after the value reached 0, they should have been putting money aside for the day that it would break down. Or started the process for buying a replacement.
Yeah they're expensive. It's known as "The cost of doing business
I'm sure parents would love there to be one great animated movie a month. Something both they and the whole family could enjoy. How long does it take to put out an animated movie? 1 to 2 years?
Sorry, I don't remember the people who were great programmers doing so well after college.
Something about "Must have 4 years of work related programming experence in 8 different languages, 3 OSes, 2 scripting languages, 3 different databases, and don't bother applying if you haven't worked in the medical career fields."
The halfwits start out at help desk, and as the company grows they get put in higher paying roles. Funny how that works, eh?
Eh? Work experince says that most jobs are easy. And the people making far more money than I are still doing easy things.
There are some hard jobs out there. But the vast majority do not require any kind of college degree. This includes most IT jobs. The college degree is just there for lazy HR people to trim down their stacks of applications.
Dude -- do you need some *HELP*? 2 servers for every workstation?
I don't see a problem with this. My house is 2 to one right now. A NAS device, a generic cheap linux box server for everything else, and my windows desktop machine.
And if I ever get/build a TIVO-like device, then it will be THREE servers for every desktop. *Gasp*!
very good friend has a son who is just starting out on his own business (the kid is 16) that I helped him start. He works cheaply, efficiently and in the first 3 months he has more opportunities than he could every handle. Why? Because he's willing to let the market set his price and his product instead of the other way around.
How come when people talk about a success that they, or someone they know have, they never mention what the business is?
He created a flying machine, it worked great, then he put it away. Absolutely no use to the rest of the world.
This is like the Canadians going "We created the first light bulb!"
Yeah, you did. And then what?
Making a working prototype is the first half of the invention. The second half is getting it to the people who can use it. What good is your immortality drug if it's just sitting in the basement?
I haven't had a problem with them, and I've got 4 domains registered with them.
When I was researching for hosting companies, the consensus was that GoDaddy sucked for everything else. Their core business, domain registration was just fine though.
Some of you that don't want to get the AMD chip because you can't get DDR2 RAM for it. In Q2 of 2006, AMD will be putting out a new CPU interface called the Socket M2. Motherboards that use this interface can implement DDR2 RAM.
I'm starting to feel the itch to build a new PC. Waiting for M2 will help me hold off.
There is some value in it; it tells you what a significant portion of the population are believing.
Actually, that's not the case. It's usually two things:
1. What they want people to believe, to encourage more people to think the same through herd mentality. 2. Anything interesting. Just because they find some guy running for office under the Nazi party, doesn't mean there's a goundswell of support for Nazis. It means he's nuts.
Yeah, but my hobby site was more relaxing/fun when it *didn't* pay the rent.
Now it's bringing in enough money to do that, and I feel obligated to clean up the bugs, be vigilant about spam, redesign the site to something modern, getting upset when artists don't deliver...
You forgot to add "Will do their best to repel those who are not liberal from their ranks."
Because?
Plus, I'd be afraid they'd give the characters American accents, which would be 4 strikes out of 3 from the get-go.
;)
As a cost cutting measure, they'll only be using Indian actors.
If the budget comes through, they might splurge and hire Canadians.
Ok, lets add some more data to that.

It's a quality control issue. They know things will work correctly in IE, so they force IE to open instead of the default browser.
but...but...
Free Kool-aid!
Only a few good slots a year?
I'm sure parents would love there to be one great animated movie a month. Something both they and the whole family could enjoy. How long does it take to put out an animated movie? 1 to 2 years?
The pie is far larger than you believe.

Where in the world did you hear that the X2s are running hot?
A friend of mine bought a 4800+ and he can't make it go above 35c no matter what he does. Plain fan cooling.
I don't see a problem with this. My house is 2 to one right now. A NAS device, a generic cheap linux box server for everything else, and my windows desktop machine.

What a great job posting, I wish you and your company good fortune!
Have your name changed to John Doe?
Wow, how useless.
He created a flying machine, it worked great, then he put it away. Absolutely no use to the rest of the world.

You just listed several reasons why it is in their interest not to help you.
Getting angry at this point won't achieve anything, either do something about it or learn to live with it.
I'm using this also.
I just like spending 100$ and then not dealing with any more bills or taxes or other annoyances.
I haven't had a problem with them, and I've got 4 domains registered with them.
When I was researching for hosting companies, the consensus was that GoDaddy sucked for everything else. Their core business, domain registration was just fine though.
I'm sorry, are we trying to conquer death? Did someone declare war? I must have missed it.
What process do they use for Nvidias 7xxx line?
