Great. Assuming that we had working fusion plants today, we'd still have a world filled with Islamic fundimentalists that want to either convert you or kill you.
There's a lot more to the war in Iraq than the oil. Even though the oil is very important.
"Lack of support from software vendors due to low market share"
Apple already has low market share, for a while now. Not providing support for your product because of the "Low market share" of apple is just an excuse.
"higher prices for software due to less units shipped,"
Wow, can you get more generic? What software do you expect to run on these new Imacs that can't be run on the G4s or G5s?
"less software to pick from due to less units shipped and higher prices for hardware."
Look, this might fly with your econ teacher, but it doesn't for me. What do you mean "Less software"? Will Photoshop for Mac stop shipping because there was a 2 month delay on G5 chips? Will someone who was programming an app for the Mac, just throw up his hands and give up?
It's a delay on a freakin chip. It happens with non-apple chips, and we've all survived. I can see you want Apple to grow it's market share and prosper, but I think you're being over-critical.
I was kind of wondering about that also. Just being employeed for 4 years at a decent job is a dream to me. My current job is good, and I'm saving as much as I can to reach a goal of self-sufficency.
At the very least, I'd sit the kids down and go "You all are going to quit school and get jobs or we're loosing our home"
If they're out of the home I'd pull the family together and see what could be done. For pete's sake, it's FAMILY. If you can't count on each other to help each other out, what's the point?
I used to work for Maxtor support. I'd be very surprised if they told you if they got a shipment in, because the company just didn't tell us stuff like that.
We get the serial # from you, confirmed it's a dead drive, asked if you wanted to cross-ship, and typed in a bunch of info. That's it.
Also, maxtor drives have 1, 3 and 5 year warranties depending on the drive. Get this, if you get the cheapest drive possible, it's going to have a 1 year warranty! If you get their business SCSI drive, it comes with a 5.
That's interesting, but you haven't explained why being human-centric in this situcation is bad.
Several people have asked (in a roundabout way) for something more definitive. I don't have the numbers, but the test would go something like this:
If any unmodified* human, can achieve escape veolocity under it's own power**, then it's not a moon.
I think this will actually be a good definition because it will help the people who will be working on the moon/asteroid.
* Sans genetic or bionic modifications.
** If you show up with a bicycle to prove me wrong, you deserve to be flung out into space.
I'd say it's a moon when it's big enough to exert enough gravity to walk on, without worrying about being flung out into space.
Great. Assuming that we had working fusion plants today, we'd still have a world filled with Islamic fundimentalists that want to either convert you or kill you.
There's a lot more to the war in Iraq than the oil. Even though the oil is very important.
"Getting rid of the moon would likely be pretty catestrophic too - we rely quite heavilly on the tidal forces."
That should be "we rely massively on the tidal forces."
How in the world is diet "scary stuff"?
Does it keep you up at night, hiding under the covers, thinking about meals that are high in saturated fat?
Yeah, I tried that, because I really liked phpMyadmin.
I'm still trying to figure out how to log into phpPgAdmin. Sigh.
"WARNING: The Singularity Is Closer Than It Appears "
I don't see it. How close does that make it?
"For Christ's sake, they put the Start bar on the bottom of the screen just to be different from Apple. What a bunch of lamers."
They do? I never noticed. I always drag the bar so it sits vertically on the right.
Is that even possible with OS/X?
One thing that the article mentions, but doesn't get into. That scientists were hostile to the concept at first.
Can anyone who was around at the time shed some light on this?
I disagree. Battlezone had immersive action and amazing graphics. Therefore, by your defnition, was a FPS.
o ter
Seriously though. It sounds like the description you're reaching for is "Doom-like" but no one calls it that.
Ah, here we go, http://www.wordiq.com/definition/First-person_sho
That wasn't so hard, was it?
So if a game like Halo or Unreal has tanks or jeeps in it, it's not a first person shooter?

Great, when you become a F500 company you have a point.
But as a consumer, it's not a big deal. You have to wait an extra month or two for that Mac. What are the horrible concequences???
In essence, you're saying
"32k jobs isn't enough. I'm not going to link or tell you what 'enough' would be, you'll just have to trust me."
I hope this style of arguement is as weak in real life as it is online.
I was kind of wondering about that also. Just being employeed for 4 years at a decent job is a dream to me. My current job is good, and I'm saving as much as I can to reach a goal of self-sufficency.

Just out of curiosity, when aren't people getting laid off?
People are ALWAYS getting laid off. Market competition works that way.
Woodland...hills.
Yeah, And I've work for a company that's dying for programmers. It's located in Springfield.
Look it up.
Doesn't have a reliable supplier?
What do you care? All you need is one or two and they'll last you forever.
I buy from Amazon because they're cheap enough, have my information, and provide links to cheaper, independant sellers.
I don't care if the writer of the column gets a kickback.
"The Battle Zone games weren't first person shooters."
How were they not? You're in a tank and shooting things. Magic carpet you were on a flying carpet and shooting things.
There was a stong RTS factor to the games, but you can't deny that you didn't shoot things in first person mode.
So, what defnition of "First person shooter" do these games not comply with?
"What FPS have you played that didn't involve primarily going from room to room and shooting things? "
Off the top of my head? Magic Carpet, Battle Zone I and II.
Actually, I sit there and figure it out in my head.
I don't know why I keep doing it, the reward of paying less doesn't outweigh the burning anger I experence every time I go shopping.
So, was that on the orginal warranty, or the 350$ "extra" warranty.
They're more expensive, and unless you buy the warranty on TOP of the extra expense, you don't get that "Special" service.
Just say you get what you pay for.

Ooook. So then, how to your propose to fix mental disease or poverty?
I'm just curious.
